Replacing filters and hose

I applaud Amigo. He is like the Guest cop. I am with him, I get sick of the misinformation posting "Guests". I don't post alot but read almost everyday. Some newbs may come in here and take some of the different Guest comments as gospel whereas most of us long-time users no it is a crock. I think it is our obligation to set them straight. Besides, you can tell throughout this forum where pages are spent in idle chit-chat praising each other that this is a decent group of people that aren't out to bash one another. I have never seen anyone that logged in "bashed".

One of the reasons I enjoy this site so very much is that it is not cluttered up with posters 'bashing' other posters. The tone of Amigo's response to Guest 2 was, in my humble opinion, rather rude and uncalled for. Even if we feel someone's views may be off base, even extreme sometimes, it isn't necessary to respond in such an ungentlemanly or unladylike manner. Words CAN hurt. Aren't we all just trying to help and support each other the best we can?

He responded to another poster in a worse way. Granted, it was a controversial topic which has been much discussed here back and forth (and I agreed with Amigo's point), but calling someone "full of bulls***", a "complete idiot" and their statements "complete crock" was uncalled for, especially since they were sincerely offering a suggestion.

The company I'm with sends me 2 disposable filters every month plus a hose, do these really need to be changed out that much? I was just curious how often everyone changes theirs out.

Looks like I'm late to the party on this post, but here's what I've done.

1. Change the filters on the recommended schedule. Like HVAC equipment and other systems that use blowers, not having a clean air intake will shorten the life of the equipment. Also it's less pollen and dust that make it to your nose.

2. I have two hoses, one is the hose originally provided with my Respironics CPAP two years ago and the second is a spare I picked up when eligible. When a hose fails, I'll have the spare and then order another.

Unlike my masks, I use a full antibacterial soap on the hose and give it a full rise out under pressure. I pour in the dish soap in one end and attach it to the faucet and then stick my thumb over the other end and fill it with hot water (make sure to hold both ends or it'll pop off and spray you). I take it off and swish it arround with thumbs over both ends. I then drain it and connnect it back to the faucet for a full rinse.

This may be an abusive way to clean the hose, but it's yet to fail and ensure's that it's fairly clean. It also has a pleasant very faint aroma of citris from the dish soap. Just used so much citris sented soaps over the years that I must mentally equate it with clean

Sorry you feel that way, Publius aka Guest, and, yes, I did lose my temper. However, since you are also posting anonymously, and are not a registered member, I will not offer you an apology.

For all I, or anyone knows, you could very well be the originator of the post I responded to, the sincerity of which is highly questionable at best.

Although I will attempt to temper my responses, I will not stop pointing out the garbage that is all too often posted anonymously.

Your recent anger moodiness, and irritability may be a sign that you need to have your DME up your pressure. But then again, if you're just naturally an a**, then no amount of increased air pressure will help you.

Maybe the pressure is to high and Amigo just needs to turn it down, or maybe take some ritalin. Either way there is bacteria that can build up in machines. What do you think happens when you get moist air in a confined space for a long period of time? Also the mask cushion is what should be replace not the mask, the cushion is what wears out and tears and breaks, thats why they send that so often the only reason they send the mask as much as they do is for money.

So your are saying. in effect, that when you change the hose at 6 months you should also get a new machine to hook it to, to keep those dreaded bacteria at bay. They probably need to be put in a hazardous waste drum and encased in concrete, in a salt mine.

Goofproof, our "Guests" are for the most part complete idiots, but they almost never fail to provide a hearty laugh. Their striving for attention is just so pathetic, and is undoubtedly related to issues of inadequacy.

Ah well, as I've said before, you can't fix stupid, but I guess you can enjoy it for what it's worth.
