wow, I feel so welcome here!

All the poor guy said is thet he personally did not recommend using the greasy V.

I say water based is better, as well. How about that.

YOU are a complete idiot and full of bulls***. I hate water based and any one who supports it. Vaseline is the only way to go and anyone who thinks otherwise, recommends otherwise, disagrees with me, or expresses another opinion is an ***hole!!

I am the only authority on this issue because of my advanced degrees in sleep medicine and petroleum-based products sciences!!

Water based is the complete opposite of a petroleum-based product, which proves what a complete moron you are. It's like comparing an orange and an SUV.

Thanks, this newbie appreciates the information provided. I, for one, may not know enough to be able to decipher the credible from the incredible. However, may I please point out one thing? If you are on oxygen, please do not use petroleum jelly to lubricate your nares, it would be wiser to use a water-soluble lubricant that does not contain petroleum in the base. A respiratory Therapist once told me that a patient experienced sparks of flames up the nostrils when an unthinking healthcare professional (??)lubricated the nasal cannula with petroleum jelly. Ouch! That'll take care of the nose hairs for sure...

Thank you,

~A

All too often these "posts" are just plain wrong, and I think we have a responsibility to the newcomers to point them out.

If there's another way, please let me know.

You are absolutely correct ~AP, and it was remiss of me not to point that out as I have in other threads on this issue.

Any petroleum-based lubricant should NEVER be used if you are on supplemental oxygen.

Thanks for the post.

amigo--

you were kidding when you wrote the above stuff, weren't you? you know i agree with you about vaseline, but why has it become such a cause?
people sometimes do hold on to silly ideas, but is the claim that you have created vaseline converts so important? if people don't want to take your good advice, so be it. it's not like you're sleeping with them every nite. LOL.

Hmmm... Petroleum distillates, including petroleum jelly, very gradually deteriorate silicone. I'm not the original guest but I beleve they were correct. In the context of silicone nasal pillows this fact simply means the nasal pillows will very gradually lose elasticity sooner than they otherwise would have. That means the nasal pillow lifespan is slightly diminished. It does not mean that the nasal pillows quickly deteriorate to the point of having to discard them.

In fact, anyone who cares can search the Internet to see many manufacturers of silicone products recommend against petroleum distillates, including petroleum jelly.

Here's one such search:

Hey Honey,

Check the post again. It was written by Aumigo (Guest) not Amigo. Somebody is just having some fun with you.

millionth guest--

where in your link does it say that petroleum jelly deteriorates silicone?most of the articles i see feature the warning that petroleum jelly deteriorates latex, which is time-sensitive anyway.

thanks.

I've heard Amigo is a paid lobbyist for Cheeseboro-Ponds, Nivea, Jergens, and other manufacturers of petroleum jelly products.

hey The Insider:

Betcha didn't know that there is no more Chesebrough-Pond's. Chesebrough-Pond's was folded into Unilever about 15 years ago. Maybe that makes it worse.

I know nothing about the effects of Vaseline the only thing I've ever used it for was to put along my hairline when dying my hair or taking my childrens temp you know where LOL. However, I have been using Ayr nasal saline gel for the last week and a half and it works great for me, I had a friend at work recommend it after I was complaining about the nasal pillows irritating my nose lining.

I'm still a relatively new CPAP user but I had to put in my review for the Ayr, please don't jump on me LOL Different things work for different people.

MichelleRae, when I'm not being a cranky curmudgeon, I'm really a nice guy, honest, and I have never berated someone for making a choice that works for them.

I only tend to lose my cool when anonymous edicts are handed down like "sermons from the Mount," and are filled with mis-information.

I also try to avoid using the dreaded "V" word unless someone has tried other irritation-solving solutions that have not worked for them.

If you read enough posts here, you will quickly discover that there is a very wide range of "what works best." It is just that kind of diversity, from informed users, that make this site so very special and informative.
