How accurate titration studies since most don't sleep good??

My brother had a home study.
He never went to sleep in the lab--at all.
His insurance didn't cover ANYTHING at the time; so no do-overs in the lab.

I am due for a titration study now that I have done the sleep study portion. The study people knew I had trouble sleeping for the first study, so now they want me to use an APAP for a few weeks to become accustomed to it. Then they will do the titration (home study) and hopefully I will be more used to it by then and will sleep better.

Also, I asked my GP for drugs and she gave me generic Ativan.

So between the two, hopefully I will sleep during the titration.

It's criminal to:

1) Send someone to a sleep study without a sleeping pill to take in case they can't sleep.

2) Not prescribe a data capable machine and use that to look for problems during the actual treatment.

3) Not have the sleep lab be quiet with good temperature controls and other conditions to allow the patient to sleep.

I think it's more criminal not to prescribe the full-data machines.

I was titrated at 8cm at the sleep lab, but the doctor wrote out for an S9 Autoset at 4-20. Since I could download flow data into Sleepyhead I was able to look and see that 4cm was too low (bumped it up to 7cm as a minimum) and that when pressure went above 16cm I had aerophagia issues and mask leaks.

On my back, I'm about a 13cm. On my side, about 10cm.

Looking at my data this week, I'm leaning towards bumping my minimum up another 1-2cm. Thus tightening my range (after almost 40 days on the unit) to 9-16.

I have not yet got my machine as my PCP just got the results from my titration study this morning. Here is my experience:

The first study I was suprised that they were able to Dx me at all because I had a hard time getting to sleep and actually had a minor panic attack (and I have never been the least bit closterphobic)because all the wires made it very hard to move and get comfortable (I am a side sleeper). Needless to say I was not looking forward to the titration study, but belive it or not I actually slept better that night than I had in a long time. The tech was the same tech that did my first study and she was so excited about how well I slept as was I. I hav ebeen waiting for 2 weeks to get my results so I can get my machine and I look forward to getting it because I could tell a marked diffrence in how I felt in the morning.

Don't think here in England we have sleep studies anymore, just take a oxometer home for 2 nights then pickup auto cpap machine for 6 week study if diagnosed, this is for severe SA

After 6 week study they check results and either you keep the machine or hand it back.

They're sort of using the Auto CPAP as a home sleep study. That's not entirely a bad idea vs. an in-lab PSG study, but it will miss some things. Of course, an in-lab PSG misses some things if you don't sleep, or don't sleep well.

Do you keep the auto? I think I heard at one time they switched you to a manual CPAP or even a brick.

Do they do the wireless modem or ask you to send in the card?
