Where do you put your xpap?

The number one requirement is to put it somewhere you can't pull it off the table, turn it over, and ruin it by getting water into the machine. Putting it in a drawer or something is a great idea.

If you don't get rainout, it doesn't matter in terms of being above or below you.

Put it somewhere that you won't pick up nasty smells or excess dust. Get rid of the dust bunnies if you put it under the bed.

I'd also recommend putting it somewhere that it won't drown if the water tank leaks. And where leaking water won't ruin expensive furniture.

Well I have had rain out....and lots of it but bear in mind that 2 of the main things that promote rain out...I do.
I like LOTS of added moisture. My nasal mucosa don't like being dried out. Proven when I have forgot to fill the tank and it goes dry during the night. 3 days of total misery.
Second..in the winter time I like a COLD bedroom....like 50 degrees cold.
Pretty much going to get rain out with those conditions. I knew it going in.
I would rather deal with the rain out issues in some way than deal with the nasal mucosa issues if they dry out though.
Got my first heated hose last fall. Stand alone heated hose because the machine I had at the time didn't offer a heated hose....I loved it. Which I hadn't been such a tightwad the first 2 winters I was on the machine. Could have saved myself a lot of annoyances.

I know this was mentioned in another thread somewhere, but the poor design of the S9 humidifier makes it very easy to get water in the hose if the humidifier is even slightly overfilled. To avoid the potential problem of having noisy water collect in a sagging hose, I no longer fill my humidifier to the Full level, and I keep my tubing elevated. I also keep it elevated because I like to connect the hose to my mask port located at the top of my head. That keeps the hose out of the way. I can turn from side to side throughout the night, and I never get tangled in the tubing or even have to touch it. I guess we all have our own methods for placing equipment that works best for our individual preferences and needs.

I have a desk next to my bed that could not be moved. So, at first, I pulled the bottom drawer out partway and set the machine on the open drawer. This meant that the bottom drawer and the middle drawer could not be used.

So, I bought a used little cabinet on wheels. I keep it next to the bed, with he drawers facing the bed. I keep the machine in the middle drawer, which is a good height for it. I keep it closed during the day, and open at night. The top drawer holds my mask and other small supplies. The bottom drawer can hold larger supplies and the travel bag. The machine is close enough to the bed that I can sleep facing away from the machine, and the hose has plenty of room. And I can reach the button to turn it off. The cabinet is on wheels, so I can move it when I need to.

Because of my equipment (Ventilator, Stand-alone humidifier, Oxygen Concentrator) and the fact that I sleep during the day in my recliner in my den, we put my stuff on a rolling cart ($50 at Home Depot). My son moves it to the den every morning and back to the bedroom every night.



This picture was taken before I had the humidifier, but it sits in front of the ventilator, sitting in a disposable pan, just in case it should leak. Need to protect that ventilator from possible water accidents.

This setup also allowed me to put a small ipod docking station on the cart so I can listen to music, if I want, when I nap during the day. I've also got a Kindle charger so I can plug my Kindle in before I go to sleep at night.

IMHO – I’ve been a HoseHead for almost 30 days now. My xPAP is on a metal table (one of those with a cutout design that probably had a glass top in a previous life) which is 14” below the surface of my bed. My hose runs up through the headboard and is attached to my CPAPmax pillow.
The instructions said to be careful about the surface the machine is placed on, because of heat and the air intake, so the cutout metal table gives me no worries.

What I didn’t realize is that the lower position also does a superb job of shielding me from the noise. We just got back from spending a week at my brother-in-law’s lake house in Vt. The bedside tables there are even with the surface of the beds. What a surprise! The machine is loud! And the higher the pressure, the louder it is. Mine runs between 15 and 18 cm., so it’s loud. I heard it a lot, and even think it woke me up a few times.

I was really glad to get home to my bed with the lower nightstand where I can hardly even hear my machine.

Although my tube is NOT heated, I run the humidifier setting at 4 (of 5), and my air conditioning is 70 degrees, I have not yet had any issues with rainout.

Mine is sitting on a small plastic steps tool between by nightstand and my bed. So easy to,reach to,turn off and on!
