What type of pillow do you use?
Are those pillows designed for masks any good? Can you recommend one? And if not what do you use?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: What type of pillow do you use?
I tried one of the expensive CPAP sleeping pillows, but it was too firm and tall for me. My wife had an old buckwheat pillow that I have been using for the last year. I can move the buckwheat hulls around to fit any situation. The hulls seem to stay wherever they are moved. When I replace it, I will probably buy from these guys: http://www.beans72.com/.
You will get replies from people who make their sleeping pillows, very economically.
Bottom line, the $50 special CPAP pillow didn't work for me. Good luck, Earl

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
It would be nice if someone would design a pillow shaped for cpap users with a zipper so you could fill it with down, buckwheat, or whatever.
I use a pillow that has buckwheat on the bottom half and millet on the top. The millet is less lumpy and doesn't make as loud of a rustling sound.

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
I use a buckwheat pillow but I would use it even without cpap because of my neck. I just move the hulls and make a little "nest" for my mask when I am on my side or stomach.
If you are leaning towards one of those with the cut outs on the sides for the mask...get a cheap memory foam pillow from Walmart and cut out your own holes for the mask to see if it will even work for you. Electric knife cuts memory foam easily and smoothly.

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
One of the few downsides that I have experienced thus far with my CPAP therapy is that I cannot find a way to use my mask with my feather down pillow. The ticking pushes against my mask when I set my head down, so I have opted for a firmer pillow that doesn't impede my mask. It's a trade off that I have resigned to accept.

Just a standard, 2" hypoallergenic pillow. I don't like thick pillows, it's now down to about 1.5" thick which is where I like it.

I use a down filled queen size pillow. Even tho I have a king bed the queen pillow works better. The down filling makes it easier to squuish down and around your mask. I got mine at Costco - two pack! No need to buy any "special" cpap pillow.

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
I am a back sleeper and use a contour pillow. It is not specifically for cpap use but works well for me. The hollower area in the centre holds my head and my neck is elevated somewhat ( like it would be if I was getting CPR). I think this helps keep my airway open.

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
Before buying a new pillow, I experimented with a couple of small throw and travel pillows already on hand. I configured them in different shapes to see what worked best for me as a side/stomach sleeper.
For me a more shape-able pillow works best so although I bought an inexpensive CPAP pillow with a C cutout of each side (which I now keep in our camper). My preference is for a Regenesis buckwheat pillow that which I can shape to suit my mask/headgear.
Cheers,
xena

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
For a number of years before I started this therapy, I used Chiroflow (also labeled as Mediflow) water-based pillows. They have also worked extremely well with this therapy. So, that's my recommendation. You can adjust the height and firmness by varying the amount of water in them. Their primary purpose is to align the head, neck and spine, so that's probably why they work so well with XPAP therapy.
Over the years, I've periodically tried to use the standard fiberfill pillows again, but the mask leakage was horrible and I didn't sleep worth a darn on them after using the water-based pillows.

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
If I'm on my back, I use a very thin hypo-allergenic pillow (also about 1.5-2.0 inches thick).
If I'm on my side, then I use one of the pillows here at cpap.com. Which I'm pretty happy with so far.
