Which of these 4 masks would you pick?

Post by karenann33 » Mon Apr 17, 2006 1:16 pm

My husband hates the breeze (his first mask). He sleeps on his back and tosses and turns. This mask is not good for either of these things.

We are going to order the activa to try next. Think he's a size large but I haven't done the research to find out what the difference between shallow and large is yet. I'm afraid of ordering the wrong size.

Anyway the sleep lab called today and my husband told him the Breeze wasn't working and they said to come in and they would exchange it for another one.

Here are the 4 they have (they are all Respironics):

Profile Lite

Comfort Lite

Comfort Classic

Comfort Jel

Which of these 4 would you pick? Yes he'll try them on but I'd like to give him some feedback first. I can't go with him because we have 3 very small children. For example if he would have known the breeze wasn't good for back sleeping he would have picked something else. Make sense?

TIA

Karen

Just a loving wife trying to help my husband sleep better. :)

IMO, I would say none of them. Tell them you want to try the Activa first. Again, (IMO) Respironics does not make the best nasal masks. The shallow mask(Activa) is wider in the bridge area. I wish the best for you one of the hardest things to find is a mask that works for you.

Some good masks to try

Activa by resmed
Breeze....did not work out
Aura by Aeiomed
Swift by resmed

Is the Comfortlite the Comfortlite 2 or the older model.

If it is the ComfortLite 2 then, out of that list, I would choose it by far. I agree though, if your husband knows he prefers the Activa then stand firm and insist on it.

Was the Breeze mask leaking alot. Was he snoring with the mask on and a good seal. You wrote that he tosses and turns often. My concern is that he is not getting the correct pressure prescribed for him. Maybe he was under titrated or his mouth is opening.

A person on CPAP therapy should not be moving around in bed alot. NO snoring , awakening or arousals if the therapy is working and the mask isn't leaking.

Try the Activa, it floats on the face and seals well without pulling the headgear too tight.

Good Luck

Wow, what a ratty bunch of choices, imho. I've tried three of them...leaky, leaky, especially if you turn much during sleep as you describe your husband doing.

I'd not accept any of those masks. I wouldn't even go in to try those particular ones on. I'd ask them to get me a ResMed Mirage Activa and a Respironics Comfort Lite 2 (the "2" is extremely important in the name...don't get the older model without the "2".)

That's not asking too much to have them get those two in for him to try. Since they seem to stock mostly Respironics masks, they should be able to at least get the Comfort Lite 2 for him. Don't let them waste time trying to convince him to try the original Comfort Lite just because they already have the older ones in stock there. He'll have a MUCH better chance with the new, improved model...the "2". A very nice mask, imho, but one that you might want to read up on "tweaks" for it.

I would stand firm on getting the Activa!

Place my vote on the Activa. The most comfortable and least likely to leak mask that I have had.

Let's have no sectarian contention or disagreements here.

The hosehead tent is large enough and broad enough to encompass followers of the Activa sect, the Headrest/Aura sect, the UMFF sect and even, OMG, the Comfort Classic sect. There are more things in the Universe than we can comprehend, even satisfied Comfort Classic believers.

General rule of thumb I have learned on this forum - stay away from anything that has "comfort" in it's name. Respironics makes great machines, but not so great masks from what I am told.

I would reccommend the Activa - just as many have had prior. I love the Activa, and after trying many masks (all from my own money) I went right back to the Activa.

Same story for me. I don't think I'll try a different mask anymore, unless it is the Activa 2.
