home study, good night and disconnected

Post by wilsonintexas » Sat Aug 18, 2012 6:06 am

I had my home sleep study last night.
Had a recorder strapped to my chest, with 2 belts to measure breathing effort, a SPO2 meter, and an adapter to record the airflow from my bipap machine. About what I expected.

The problem is, I had the lowest AHI for a week. IT has been running 18, 19,12.... last night the total was 7.09, clear airways was 5.49, with hypo .4. That just makes the limit........

BUT
of the 47 Clear airways, 9 were ritht before I got out of bed.... they will probably be tossed... so the AHI will not meet the criteria AND I rolled over and disconnected the air flow from the machine.........
Not sure if they will take my machine data, and merge it with theirs....
AT least it is over the weekend and I get a do over. Tonight I tape the hose from the recorder to my mask hose and try again. I also shut off the alarm, and sleep past the normal time.

I was just reading anout another report that noticed the event related to sleep position...... During hte sleep studies, I was on my back if side...... I normally sleep on my stomach......... so...

Last night, the recorder was strapped to my front, so i did not sleep ass normal, even if it were a home sleep study......

may have to stop by the lab tonight, and see if they have longer leads for the belts......I may be able to put the recorder at the head of the bed, and sleep nor normal.... . They mentioned that they were in over the weekend.....

I have also had 20 nights out of 90 where the ahi is below 5. So something is working once in a while.

I guess it is time to read the threads on an IR camera and track my sleep position......and get out the tennis balls.....

Still waiting for my sleep study results from the lab....

I had a home sleep study with a box strapped to my chest, belts, etc., and the report distinguished AHI when supine from AHI when I was lying on my side. The only way I can see for them to do that is to incorporate a position sensor in the equipment attached to me, perhaps inside the box. If so, they may need to keep the box strapped to you.

Even though I don't normally sleep on my front, I would have preferred longer leads and less stuff actually attached to me. I seem to be shorter from breast to throat than they allow for, and if I had the box low enough to not choke me the lower corners dug into sensitive areas. I would have slept more normally with something lighter and softer on me, and leads to a bedside box. Modern sensor equipment can be quite small and flat. I would have thought an IMU could be worked into one of the chest bands.

I did the do over..... I got a longer hose for the pressure sensor, taped it to the mask hose.... taped the SPO2 lead to my shirt.... all looked good

The night was a good bad night..... AHI for the night was 9.6. Central events were 7.7 and hypos were .6.. A total of 71 central and 12 obstructuve.......

BUT WAIT FOR IT

THE MACHINE RAN OUT OF BATTERY

I hope it got enough.... I will call the center tonight and get a second machine, maybe night three will work

Are you getting the feeling that the gods have your name at the top of their hit list?
Almost like if it wasn't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all.

yes....
I am aalso goingto have them down load the data tonight, when I pick up a new machine. They adapted a hose connection, and used part of an IV tume, that has a check valve in it. I suspect that the clow data is not goingo be there. With the machine in mask fit mode, (pressure of 15) there was NO pressrue coming out of the connection that went into the recorder. That simply seems wrong.....

Oh well, tonight is another night.

Maybe i mam geting use to things, I only wokre up 4 times last night and today I am only a little tired..... but it 11:00.

I hear that some people feel re-freshed....... after sleep..... i kind of remember that happening...

Third night,,,,,,

Goit wired up, no problem
'The battery lasted the night......

You guessed it, the best SHI for over a month..... 3.6

I had to sleep on my back or side..... the recorder was strapped to my chest

so either things are setteling down, or I need to sleep on my back more often.

Still not a good nioghts sleep, but better than most.

AND it will take until WED for the DR to have the results........ need to find a new DR.

What sleeping position do you normally use when starting out the night?
Like the night above where you had a good first half of the night??

I usually start on my side, and end up on my stomach.

I called the sleep center about getting longer cords, so the machine would not be on my chest. That way I could sleep on my stomach. I was thinking of leaving the machine attached to the head board. They said that there was a position switch in it. I will be interested in seeing my sleep position vs apneas. I will try to get the report over the next day or two.

If I have to do it again, I may put it on my back, and sleep on my stomach and side.....

BUT if I am clear by sleeping on my side or back....Then I have to train myself to stay on my side or back...... on of the few people trying to sleep more on my back...... how much fun.

I am also calling the hospital again for my copy of the sleep studies.... I an very interested in sleep position there. During all of my sleep studies, my AHIs seemed under control, and I was on my side or my back.

DR just confirmed that all of my centrals are real ones (from the home study) ...... headed to ASV, if we can work it past the insurance.......

Lets see if I can get it doen before I go on vacatio in 9 days.

After that we try to tackle why the first half of the night is better than the last half.

but one step at a time.
