Should I move from S8 to S9?
Should I move from S8 to S9?
This monday my 3 years old son tripped with my Autoset II S8 and boom it went to the floor... after that it wasn't working properly, so I sent it to technical service and today they sent me an Autoset S9 to try it. Tonight I'm going to see if it feels better... And I need some advice: if they fix the S8, do I sell it and upgrade to the S9 or keep using the S8????
One last thing: is there any way to find out the fabrication year of the unit??
Thanks,
Luis Felipe.

Check out my signature line and download SleepyHead and see if you like the data that the S9 offers after you sleep with it tonight. If your computer has a SD slot you don't need anything else to use the software. If your computer doesn't have a SD slot all you need is a generic card reader/adapter for a USB port.
Unsure about manufacture date availability though. Maybe someone else can answer that question.

Fixing the S8 will not be cheap. You may never recover the repair charge if you sell the unit. The S8 Autoset II is worth about $200....that's what I paid for one on Craigslist 2 years ago.

Re: Should I move from S8 to S9?
Luis,
Others have mentioned that the repair could be expensive, but you will have to weigh the relative costs of maintaining the S8 vs S9. One improvement, the newer machines provide more data including some estimation of Central Apneas.. S8 does not.
Nothing you have other than the mask and possibly the tube is transferrable; the design is, as you can see, completely different.
Personally, I still use an S8 auto and would like to hear your observation of the differences between the two.

Re: Should I move from S8 to S9?
The S9 is more technically advanced but at the end of the day you should choose whats best for you.
You have the chance to try the S9 and make up your own mind. Personally i like the climate control on the S9 and its ability to detect centrals. Did they let you try and S9 with the H5i humidifer and heated hose?
On the subject of expense. The PR ONE Series 60 setup is almost identical to the S9 setup at half the price

If you decide you want/need to get rid of the S8 and obtain an S9 AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE, you might want to visit Secondwindcpap.com
They sell new and reconditioned CPAPs (and also purchase some used ones). The reconditioned machines come with a warranty (usually one year) and can be purchased at a considerable savings.

Re: Should I move from S8 to S9?
Unless things have changed recently just look at the serial number on the bottom of the unit, S8 or S9, the first four numbers of the serial number are the year of manufacture and the next two numbers are the month of manufacture. The same holds true for the integrated humidifier unit.

Re: Should I move from S8 to S9?
Thank you so much for the answers, after one night with the S9 I'm definitely keeping it!!! The algorithm is awesome, and the heated tube is a blessing for my wife (now she doesn't have to wake up in the middle of the night and "drain" it to stop the noise. I'm buying the heater thingy that goes inside (water recipient?) that opens (dish washer friendly?) so I can clean it and suposedly it'll last longer than the sealed one.
By the way, I just downloaded sleepyhead and it works great with Mac!
Well, thanks again... this is a great community and I hope someday I'll be as helpful as you guys were with me.
Luis Felipe.
