New Machine S9 and New to OSA

Post by digga188 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:04 pm

Hi All
I was only diagnosed with Severe OSA about a month ago. I had an AHI of 128 per hour and all the other problems noted here. I was out on a trial machine a F&P Icon Auto. Yesterday I got my new machine and have started on it a Resmed S9 with Humidifier and climate line tubing. It is a little different to get used too. My question is has anyone had a whistle sound on exhaling towards the end of the breath, is it the machine or is there something wrong with mine. If is is the machine is there any solutions ?

Thanks
Digga188

Some people have mentioned it. I have only heard it once, and I was breathing really hard. I think some people figured out that it varied based on how hard they were exhaling.

Welcome to the forum. Which version of the S9 do you have? Elite, Auto, escape?

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Excellent! You can download data. I think Pugsy has the link for the latest version of ResScan. I use a slightly older version. A lot of people use sleephead too, though I do not.

Having the ability to view data is a huge advantage in customizing your own treatment.

The "whistle" is normal and you will eventually get used to it. When my wife mentions it, I say I'm whistlin' at her fine body.....

Hi, welcome to the forum.
I sent you a private message in response to your other post with this question. I didn't want to respond up in that thread.
There isn't anything wrong with your machine. The whistling noise or some people say it sounds like a bird cooing..seems to be a byproduct of a combination of things....the force of our own exhaled breath, maybe pressures used and our own personal sensitivity to noise levels. I can hear it if I really, really strain hard to listen and if I breathe less forcefully I can't hear it at all.
It's a machine. Machines make some noise and some of us are just more prone to be more sensitive to it than others I guess. If it is too annoying you can try putting the machine on something that will absorb some sound and see if that helps...like a computer mouse pad or folded up small towel. I use a small towel because my night table is a small wooden table and wood seems to make things "echo" a bit. I don't have a large enough mouse pad or I would have used that. A small rubber mat would work also and maybe offer a bit of grip.

Check out my signature line for Sleepyhead software. It will work great with the S9.
You can also use ResScan if you wish. It is larger, much slower and until one gets used to it more difficult to manage.

Sometimes my S9 Autoset w/ the humidifer coos, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be localized down around the humidifier tank for me.

I keep a fan on in the bedroom anyway to blot out the noise of traffic / neighbors, so I generally don't notice it.

Thank you so much for you comments the software that came with my machine package is Remscan version 4.1. I haven't downloaded my data yet as only have 2 nights. Do you download daily weekly or monthly? And what does it all mean?
Thanks

Try to download at least once a week, The SD card don,t keep more than 7 days of high resolution data.
The machine sleep report via the LCD screen offers compliance and therapy data for up to 365 days
