Finaly found a mask I can live with, BUT...

Post by DiverCTHunter » Wed Aug 15, 2012 8:17 am

One of the headgear clips was defective out of the bag...
...and the elephant trunk extension tube between the horizontal and vertical swivels keeps pulling off the vertical swivel...
...and now the vertical swivel has cracked...
...and it's only three months old...

Is this normal for the Liberty, or did someone re-up my subscription to the Murphy's Law appreciation club?

I like that the Mirage Liberty is quieter than the Innomed Hybrid, but the back and forth with the DME about "non-standard" parts is getting old.
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI

I used the Liberty several years back and had no issues with it. For whatever its worth, it's not unusual for the headgear of a mask to wear out before the mask does (though some masks have cushion issues). The headgear gets twisted, stretched, and the snaps get a good work out. My mask can last four to five months, but the headgear will only last three. I'm always replacing my headgear. That being said, all the parts should be in new condition coming out of the bag.

One of the DME's at last month's "support" group meeting implied that mail-order supplies are likely to be counterfeit.
(I wonder where she got THAT idea?)
If there are indeed counterfeit masks out there, I might expect to find them on CL or at the local B&M.

The "overseas manufacturers" have a fairly good grasp on the "form" of things, but often fall short on materials and workmanship. The company I work for has at least five people who work full time doing nothing but tracking counterfeit products. Counterfeit products are a real problem, because they don't just turn up at the local flea markets, they often make their way into the product mainstream.

So if someone has a product that is such poor quality that it could NOT be real,
who would they contact for an honest assessment/settlement?
The DME they got it from?
The manufacturer?
