Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
Hi guys
I have been experiencing a weird feeling in my upper thorax. It is like a tingling inside my body more precisely on the area of the the pectoral muscles up there all around but it's inside; it's not in the surface. I have experienced that on my forehead but not lately and not for a so long time.
The Dr told it was maybe due to a too high cpap pressure but I felt that again and it lasted for a good 10 seconds on a day when the pressure wasn't high at all compared to other days (I have an Apap 8 - 12). This last time it lasted long enough to make me wonder what is going on, could this be my heart? I'm very curious about it.
A member of the forum told me once about a problem the brain had of not been able to synchronize the body and brain at the time of wake up. I'm not sure that's the problem because I'm able to move as I want and in the case of bad synchro you stay kind of freezed.
The first time I noticed this thing was when I was in the worst of my apnea symptoms without treatment but now I have been on cpap for almost 6 months and my AHI was 0.4 the last time I experienced this weirdosic thing.
Any idea, comment, hypothesis, theory, suggestion everything is welcome

I am not sure how old you are but That is how my hot flashes used to start. I referred to it as "ants walking under my skin".
I also used to get sort of that kind of feeling as part of the beginning of an allergic reaction and the last month here in Mtl has been really bad for allergies (at least for me)

Re: Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
I get that feeling too! Can't explain it to the doc. He put me on anti anxiety meds to see if it helped and it didn't. I can only describe it as a tingling sensation that covers my whole chest, lasts for a few minutes and than goes away. I think it was my low oxygen sats I was having before cpap. I still get them every few days but not as severe and never while using my cpap. Sometimes they are a precursor for a hot flash but not all the time. I hope others can answer so maybe someone has an expaination for a very annoying problem!! Good luck!
Re: Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
Hi Blackspinner
More accurately the feeling I have is like a vibration inside the chest.
Yes I'm old now I started the infamous hot flashes on January but now is almost gone, I haven't had at all for a couple of weeks. I'm taking morning primrose oil pills, rice bran oil and flaxseed grounded it seems to work. When it started I had 4 to 5 hot flashes in the night, it was not a good mix with my new cpap life The last one, the more longer I have had the other day was not related to a hot flash though because I didn't have one. Thanks for the answer
Something I realize is some days I wake up with one of the hands numbed.
By the way, I was not able to get an appointment with your Dr but I found a new one very good in another hospital
ilvsleep: Thanks , I have never had that in other time than when I wake up. The hot flashes, I had it most of the time in the night but some in day time too. Now as I told I haven't had any in the last weeks, I really hope the oils help stop that annoying thing. I started the tingling/vibration before cpap and I have it still now. Me too I thought it was an oxygen deprivation sign but I doubt it because the last time my AHI was really low and I check the wave graphs and it was no apnea or hypopnea at the time that happened.

The numb hand makes me wonder if it's nerve related (thoracic outlet syndrome)--do you sleep on your side, and are your shoulders rolling forward? I sleep on my side, and have a pillow roll that I hug to my body so my top arm is supported. And I have enough pillow support so that the bottom shoulder is not crunched.
Do you do alot of computer or desk work, where your shoulders are rolled forward?

Hi KatieW
Yes I sleep on my side mostly the left side, I have pillows for that side but I find myself sleeping over the right side too and I don't have pillows for that side. Yes my shoulders are rolling forward . I think I have tendency to let the pillows far from my body and I roll forward both sides
Yes I pass long time in front of my computer (I need to stop that ).
It sounds like that could be the reason of the problem. Before start cpap I passed 5 months trying to sleep only on my sides while I was waiting for my machine. In that time this weirdo thing was very frequent. It makes a lot of sense; what I can't understand is that some times I felt that over my forehead too
I imagine the solution is stretching and changing the way I sleep, add a good support for arms not rolling forward ?

Re: Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
Just a day or two I googled for " internal trembling " and came across much info.
It is sometimes called " Essential Tremor " also I believe.
Kinda scarey cause sometimes it is a precursor to Parkinson's Disease.
Seems it is often related to stress but I can't figure out where I would have any stress.
So I dunno why I have started experiencing it.
Just tell yourself it isn't serious and try to get your mind on something else and it usually goes away.

Re: Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
Hi, I hate to be a bore, but ... anytime you have chest related problems that you're not sure of it is best to see an MD. Don't wait until something serious happens to check out these things - women especially have unusual symptoms of cardiac 'events' and shouldn't think they're either bothering the doctors or that their symptoms are not classical for cardiac stuff. Just get it checked. I don't think you have essential tremor BTW, that's a neuro. problem and tingling is not a symptom.
Re: Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
Thanks Julie.
I indeed mentioned that to my GP, she doesn't know what can be. She send me to have a heart ultrasound, but I felt too lazy last week to try to find a big hospital where they will accept the referral from my GP. I hate sending my referrals by fax.
Last time I get a referral for a heart stress test, it was refused in a hospital at West Island. There, they told me they only accepted referrals from their own cardiologists, I needed to go to one of the big University Hospitals.
It's a pain to go downtown to try to find the place where I need to present my little referral to see if they will accept it so I let the thing aside, my bad I had a couple of electrocardiograms in the past, the last one 2 years ago and all was good.
I need to do my homework and go to find an appointment.

I have found these exercises very helpful:

But of course, you should have other possible health issues checked out as well.

Re: Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
Oh please, please, please, all you people trying to be helpful with "it may be this" or "it may be that", "see your GP" and so on! This is a real effect, I have had it, in fact that's why I came to this forum. No, I'm not pressing on a nerve! It affects all four limbs and lasts up to a couple of hours after a long CPAP session. To me it feels like my blood has been replaced by foaming soda water coursing through my veins. I personally like the sensation. It happens to go with completely eliminating some mild oedema I used to get in my legs so I am really chuffed now I know it's not unusual. Just think, we've been choking almost to death tens of times an hour all night long for years, suddenly we are breathing normally instead. No wonder it feels as if we're over-oxygenating now we're back to normal!

Re: Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
That's certainly, IMO, in the running. I've got a loooong history of heart stuff, bad DNA etc. With me it was my brain trying to get my central nervous system and pulmonary system synced up, manifesting in a really weird intermittent 'tingle' where you mentioned (tingle's not the right word but will have to do). Sort of a very disagreeable vibratory pressure discomfort? Whether CPAP aggravates this is hard to say... for me CPAP seems to cut it way back; but then I'm still in early days. As you know, I'm not a doctor, therefore can't give medical advice, however, it can't hurt to get on the treadmill all wired up and have the 'ol ticker checked out.rosacer wrote: This last time it lasted long enough to make me wonder what is going on, could this be my heart? I'm very curious about it.
Edit: I'm not a big fan of ultrasound tests for the heart. They put me on one of those and nothing... then sometime later got a stress test on a treadmill. Bingo... bad stuff goin' on while the heart was rapidly beating.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: Weird tingling sensation, does somebody has this??
How did it shake out? Are the symptoms still there?
Original post was June 5. We know you're still around.
Feeling better, I hope.
When I read this today, I was thinking 'hyperventilation'.

The original post date was actually "by rosacer on Fri Jun 04, 2010 9:03 pm" I guess no news is good news, at least in this case. Still, I'd like to be updated too. Glad you're still with us!
