2factors cardreader install problem

Post by Whitey » Wed Apr 12, 2006 6:29 pm

I've been reading the posts about cardreader install problems but I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Here's the story so far:

I installed the Encore Pro software and it seems to be working fine.

I then installed the Mako software that came with the 2factors reader and everything, again, seemed fine.

I set myself up as a patient in Encore Pro and tried to download the data from the card. but it says "cardreader not detected". I checked in preferences and selected usb...still no luck. Then I noticed that when I insert the card into the cardreader the light is red...

I'm lost. What does a red light on the cardreader mean? I'm not sure exactly which software I should install. Do I need to install the cardreader software that came with Encore or just the Mako software? If I need both what order should I install them in?

I'd like to make sure I have the right stuff installed before I go looking for hardware or configuration problems.

The file you need to install the reader is on the 2Factors site, the page for the postal and sliding reader. The file is listed encore pro.exe, it is over 5 megs in size, Unplug the reader and run the exe file. If you have not done this you will not be using the reader. This must be done first, other thing may be needed too. When correct the light starts red and goes green to work.

A better answer is to see the Sticky of Rested Girl's it has the info and links you need, Thanks RG, you made it easy. Jim

You may also need to try a different USB port.
There have been a number of instances of USB ports not recognizing the reader.
You HAVE to make sure that the cardreader is NOT plugged into the computer when you're doing the Encore Pro and the reader software install.
This forum has MANY, MANY threads detailing similar problems and their resolutions, if you want to do a "search" for them.

This is the site that Jim is referring to:

Driver: Do NOT use the CD that came with the Hong Kong reader, go to this site and use “Installers for Encore Pro” at the bottom of the screen:

Thanks Linda, that's what I needed to know. So, do I need to install the cardreader software that came with Encore Pro or just the file from the website?

You need to install the Encore Pro software FIRST.
Then install the cardreader software.

A problem that I had which may or may not be the same with your machine - I had initially tried to get the card running through a USB hub and it just wouldn't work. Just as a lark I tried it in a port directly on the computer and it worked instantly.

Only the Phantom knows! (and if you know this reference then you are older than you think!)

OK, I just found RG's sticky...wow! you put a lot of effort into that one girl, THANK YOU!!!

Could've saved a lot of time searching and reading impertinent posts if I had seen that in the beginning. I'm sure I'll get through it with all that info.

Thank you all for the help!
Chet

This is a more educated group than I had originally thought. Not only do we have advice about xPAP but old radio trivia as well.

You're absolutely right - it was the SHADOW. I'm mixing my shows together I think!

Ken,

That's cause lots of us are REALLY OLD......or at least old enough to remember some of that stuff....

Have a good one.

Umm, Umm, Umm . . ., tripped up by faulty memory again.

Here's a little bit if trivia for you "youngsters".

The Shadow (originally played by James LaCurto, and then famously by Frank Readick Jr.) made his debut on radio in 1931, as the third-person narrator of mystery stories on "Street & Smith's Detective Story Hour." When fans of the show wrote in asking for adventures starring The Shadow himself, Street & Smith hired Walter Gibson, a magician and former ghost writer for Harry Houdini, to write a monthly series of pulp mystery novels. "The Shadow Magazine" ran until 1949, and was the most successful pulp series ever. Beginning in 1937, The Shadow starred in his own radio show, originally featuring Orson Welles as Lamont Cranston and 'Agnes Moorhead' as Margo Lane. Other actors later played The Shadow on the radio show, which ran until 1955.

They also did a movie "The Shadow" in 1994 starring Alec Baldwin and Penelope Ann Miller.

Best wishes.
