cpap.com: no free loaner while warranteed cpap in shop

Post by kaiasgram » Tue Jul 24, 2012 2:23 pm

I posted several weeks ago about my S9 humidifier, which I thought was not working. Looks like my heater may be the culprit, working only intermittently. My machine is still under warranty so I can return it to cpap.com for repair or replacement. But cpap.com will not issue a loaner to me unless I pay $140 plus another $30 if I rent the humidifier with it. I also have to pay for shipping. In addition they do not offer the S9 as a loaner so it would be another brand. I'm disappointed that cpap.com does not stand behind the equipment it sells by providing the loaner free of charge for machines that are still under the manufacturer's warranty. I don't know if other dealers have different policies but thought this was important to know about.

You might want to think about getting a backup machine. I had an equipment issue a few weeks ago, and I had to switch to my backup machine for a week.

It's a good idea, but that's about all I can do -- think about getting a backup machine. My insurance doesn't cover DME and I'm struggling to pay off my current machine (just diagnosed and bought the machine & supplies last month). I will definitely buy a second machine when I'm able to but that will be a long, long while from now. cpap.com is pointing the finger at ResMed (i.e., their manufacturer warranty doesn't cover a loaner), and ResMed is pointing the finger at the DME provider (it's their loaner policy). Neither is standing behind the machine they sell. Very frustrating.

It's a tough predicament.
If CPAP.com had offered insurance to cover that, I may have considered it, since back-up is never covered on warranty.
Not the type of equipment you plan on having fail.
You might be able to score a cheapie used machine locally--just to have there; --whenever.
Problems with S9's seem to be pretty scarce, though.

I would not expect any internet DME to provide a loaner.

That type of service would drive up the cost and that is not what most of us want to happen to internet providers.

We have two bricks at home that are used for backup.

I don't know what climate you sleep in but it is humid now in much of the States and you should consider going without the humidifier in the interim.

I hope something works out for you because a CPAPer can be absolutely miserable without his machine.

Kaiasgram, I'm very sorry to hear you have problems with the warranty. I have never thought it could be the case with cpap.com I hope you will find the way to solve this boring situation. I know it is not easy for every one to sleep without humidifier even in a humid weather, I'm definitely not capable to do so. I wish I was closer and I had a back up to lend to you non of those is the case .

I bought one of my former PR System One at bestcpapprice.com, which is an internet seller too. That System One started having intermittent problems with the humidifier something like 6 months after buying it. I e-mailed bestcpapprice and after 4 e-mails back and fort (it toke three days) to convince the tech the machine was faulty he told me he was sending me a new machine the same model right away and I needed to send mine ASAP (all that before I send mine back). I think if I have called him it would have taken only one call.

I didn't accept because I was afraid to be said by Respironics my machine was good and having to pay for another System One. That is my Saint Thomas side at work. But what I didn't know is Respironics had already accepted to take my machine as warranty issue and the seller was trusting me to send the bad one back. I waited one month before sending the faulty machine, they even e-mailed me back telling they haven't receive my machine and were waiting for it as I had asked to do before sending the replacement. Once the machine arrived there they send me a whole kit even if they had asked me to send only the blower + humidifier , no connection, bag, or hose.

That is a good service because I told them I had no back up machine which was true at that moment as it is now again the case.

I find that after explaining myself with the tech all was really good with them. I hope cpap.com do something nice for you, everyone. It is not a secret that the S9 has humidifier problems. A lady I know here in Quebec told me recently she has exchanged her S9 twice in less than 2 years, she bought from a DME here. Once it was the blower and the last time the humidifier.

Wish you the best

I'm with Chicagogranny...If it is just the humidifier that is malfunctioning, why can't you use the unit without the humidifier? The air in most areas is very humid this time of year.

Kalasgram,

When you see a Resmed S8 or Respironics M Series machine on Craigslist or elsewhere (even here) for $150 or thereabouts you should snatch it up and keep it in your closet for situations like this. Older machines with low hours are common and inexpensive, and will do the job in a pinch while your primary machine is being repaired.

Good luck.

I could be rwong but I think the reason is because the machine has been sent in for repair (or is about to). She prob wants to get it fixed while it is still under warranty.

Because there's no way to know if the problem is in the humidifer unit (e.g. the heater plate) or in the connection between the two units. So both need to be sent back and checked out. I do plan to buy a second machine as soon as I'm able to.

You tell me, Gumby:

Is this sexy or what... I forgot to mention my eye mask.

I had to do it. It's not like someone could recognize me on the street now!

And thanks for the offer of help with a loaner -- I'm out here in California.

This picture made my day (and night). You and I both EXUDE sex appeal when we sleep.

That said, where in California are you, kaiasgram? I live in Los Angeles, and I have a spare S9 Autoset that I could loan you as a back-up if you're local.

Thanks so much napster, I'm actually in the Sacramento area but that is a very kind offer. And you wouldn't even have to worry about trying to track me down if I didn't return the machine to you -- because you've got my photo ID !!!

There was one finishing touch that needed to go in this photo for a true representation -- if I was actually sleeping in that picture you'd also see a little drool at the side of my mouth.

Cheers!
