A Poll -- How compliant are you?
Re: A Poll -- How compliant are you?
I never nap, intentionally. I have fallen asleep on the sofa a few times from 20 mins to 2 hours, without cpap. But I've never slept in my bed for even 5 minutes without it...

I voted 85% because there wasn't an option for 95%. I have missed a few nights due to power outages or not being able to go to sleep at all. I do wear it every night when I go to bed and keep it on all night.

Re: A Poll -- How compliant are you?
I am over 85, but not 100. I have missed a few nights when camping and I dont drag it out to the hammock for an afternoon siesta.
But, my CPAP usage is not life and death, at least not yet, I am on it for excessive snoring, fragmented sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness. While not an official diagnosis I think i am more UARS than OSA. I scored very few apnea-hypopnea events and had no O2 desaturation so I am a bit more inclined to skip a night here or there. I barely made the cutoff to be diagnosed for the CPAP to be covered by insurance.

Re: A Poll -- How compliant are you?
I have been virtually 100% compliant for 13 years now. "Virtually" because I have fallen asleep in an easy chair without a machine - actually I do that a couple times a week. Also, I read somewhere that you can/should back off when you have a sinus infection. Unfortunately I have chronic sinusitis, so on two occasions I have purposely slept without my mask on for one week on one occasion, and almost two weeks the other time. To be honest, it didn't help at all and I feel lousy when I don’t use the machine, so I use it all the time now, sinuses be ****ed!

Likewise! Only miss while watching TV, and then slightly reclined in a recliner. JimRandyJ wrote:I never nap, intentionally. I have fallen asleep on the sofa a few times from 20 mins to 2 hours, without cpap. But I've never slept in my bed for even 5 minutes without it...

Re: A Poll -- How compliant are you?
I'd be between 65% & 75% compliant. Or maybe a little less.
I get to use my cpap most weekdays. But on weekends I tend not to get to use it since I end up sleeping in another room. Also, when I take a nap durnig lunch at work I dont have my cpap with me.

Re: A Poll -- How compliant are you?
i was curious about this .. my perception was that I was like a good fastball - mid 90s. I don't take the moral high ground here .. I just sleep better with it. According to my machine - if I read it correctly, I just barely cracked 90%. (Personally I think my CPAP is in cahoots with my bathroom scale - they both lie.). I went for a re-titration a few weeks ago and my doc asked me about my compliance. I kicked a toe in the ground and stared down sheepishly and told him my machine said about 90%. He and his PA both thought that was wonderful compliance. i thought I was in for a lecture.
The only times I don't use it are when I have a bad cold .. and occasionally post intimacy I'll forget to put the mask on. So what do you high 90s and 100% peopel do when you have a cold or allergies? Do you have a full face mask? My insurance company allows me a new mask every 3 months and I thought about making a full face mask my next one for those times of serious congestion.
Oh .. and I don't wear it when I nap ... mostly because it's not in my car while I'm driving (jk).

...and here I was at work, thinking I was going to get through the whole day without having to clean my monitor - LOL! Oh well, at least I only sprayed a small bit of water. Bravo! The second one was funny as all get out...
I use a hybrid FFM as my main mask, so I don't necessarily have a separate mask for congestive days. I've got 2 backup FFM's in case I get a bad cold or the hybrid bugs my nose. (well, there's actually a few more reasons I have backup masks, but those are the top two reasons)

Re: A Poll -- How compliant are you?
I have a quatro for those days. It actually feels a lot better to use the cpap machine with the humidity cranked up when you have a cold, it works better then any OTC meds to clear up your nose. The only reason I use the quatro at that time is that I can't stand anything touching my nose when I have a cold.Sgt_Pepper wrote: The only times I don't use it are when I have a bad cold .. and occasionally post intimacy I'll forget to put the mask on. Re: A Poll -- How compliant are you?
I lied...was really 97%. Been on the machine 62 days, two days was less than 4 hours. The first time was day 2 (woke with the mask on my ear, took it off and went back to sleep). The other time was this past Friday when because of work, I was up working till 3 am and had to get back up at 6:30am. Funny thing, I was tired on Saturday, not exhausted or beat, just tired. Also I did not nap and stayed up till my normal bedtime. Finally, according to SleepyHead, my average nights sleep is 8.21 hours.

Re: A Poll -- How compliant are you?
I've been on CPAP since early March, and have missed 2 nights. Regretted it both times. I will nap for a while without masking, but will usually wake up shortly, either because I am snoring or because my husband is waking me up because I am snoring . My doctor seems to be pleased with my "compliance", however, and since he's the one who signed the order for the insurance, that works for me.

I'll still nap occasionally in the recliner without the mask, but now if I am up for a deep nap, I'll mask up.

Re: A Poll -- How compliant are you?
My numbers on Encore say around 95%, but it's probably closer to 90%. So I voted for 85%.
I use it every night, except for periods of a week—give or take a few days—for colds, camping, hurricanes, etc. Haven't gotten the battery thing figured out, and since I, too, don't have desats because I have UARS/RERA and not apnea, I figure a week won't kill me. I feel no difference in sleepiness being on or off the machine. The only thing is that I have to adapt to the machine/mask again after a break, which is always difficult. For this reason, I avoid skipping nights. I get really annoyed when I know I'm getting a cold or the power goes out.
Sometimes I just don't sleep 4 hours during the night. I see that not as lack of compliance but more as lack of ability. I do the best I can, and don't penalize myself for it.
But I do take off points for the occasional night when I think I'm going to be awake for a while in the middle of the night but then fall asleep again right away without my mask on. While I am grateful that the interruption in sleep was brief, I am annoyed that my statistics will be skewed.
