I choose to use my cpap machine for MY personal benefit every time I sleep. Just like I take meds I have researched and I believe will be beneficial and don't take the ones where I feel the side effects outweigh the benefits (like statins). I don't have to report my activity like an errant child to some autocrat.

I dont like sleeping without my machine. I still have some kinks and stuff to get worked out and what not but even with the "kinks" its still better then without.

Never taken the mask off at night while sleeping, though once I did disconnect the hose somehow. Obviously I woke up pretty soon afterwards and reattached it. Even with the minor problems I do have with it, I find myself spending less time in bed to get the same amount of rest. I just wish I could find out whats makeing me leak and how to stop it... My leak rate will be flat for a few hours, then go squiggly for like half an hour or so then go flat again for a while.. I'm wondering ifit's REM related or not...

I agree with Blackspinner about the word compliant. It means "excessively submissive." Yes, I know it is a medical term of art, but it indicates an attitude that should be recognized as seriously outdated.

I'm 100% compliant with the spinner too
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Sloop,

i'm not criticizing you. It is accepted medical terminology. But it is still offensive -- not because you used it, but because the medical profession uses it -- and your post created an opportunity to weigh in on that.

I am compliant every day for since December 2010. I haven't missed a single day. I couldn't sleep without it. I already bought a battery in case of a power outage.

Im at 100% since I started September 2011. The benfits have been life changing. My blood pressure is down 20 points and I was in danger of falling asleep and losing my job at work or falling asleep going to and from work. And I am dreaming again. I was a frog in a slow heated pan that would have expired. I happily put on the mask every night. It would be unaceptable to return to the pre CPAP/APAP days.

There are moves within the medical literature to get away from compliance, and use adherence as the preferred term. Unfortunately, because we are dealing with less than smart DMEs and inane insurance companies, the term they use to describe our adherence to the "commands" of the doctor is "compliance." If we don't comply with their orders we will have to stay behind after school, have our machines taken away from us, and have to present them with huge bills when we get real sick because of not adhering to the best treatment available. Even if we don't like it.

I'm at 100%. It's so much bother to move this thing to where I'd nap (not on the bed) that I simply refuse to do it. So, no intentional naps. And I never get one on the bed during the day anyway... so, i consider it 100%.

Once a patient has been at this for a long time, they'll find that the docs and DMEs won't ever even mention the word "compliance". If that patient has a long time track record of being compliant, they'll be in the drivers seat. I never even hear from my Sleep Lab (and doc) unless I go to them with an issue.

I'm thinking us 2012 newbies might start using this link a lot on this forum! It's the first thing that pops into my head when someone gets their panties in a bunch over a post ( I was NOT referring to this thread in particular. If you read back into many posts on this forum that contain certain words, suggestions, ideas, whatever, you'll see what I'm referring to).

Thanks for using a classic to remind us to have some humor! Good job! I used the same reference recently myself.

Oh, and I voted. 100% compliant.

And no, Sloop, you shouldn't be expected to spend hours finding a word that everyone is happy with. You used a correct medical term. I have no problem with it. I'm just glad the medical world didn't pick submissive instead LOL.

Just a random suggestion: If there's so much resistance to "that word" then perhaps a NEW poll should be started by someone who really wants to see it replaced. They can offer solutions to which word to use instead - majority vote would win. Then spread the word politely that here on the forum they'd like to see more of the replacement word by asking people to consider using it instead of "compliant".

Just my 2¢

I am 100% COMPLIANT.......Get over it ladies. That is the term used to determine if insurance will pay for treatment.

Some of you may be wondering why I used 100, 85,75 .... etc., instead of the more typical 100, 90, 80 ... etc.
It turns out that in setting up a POLL on this forum, you are limited to a maximum of 10 lines. As I wanted to include "O%" (thinking there just may be a few who totally fail), I had to get creative with my data points. I suppose I could have made an exact separation for the ten lines, but with odd numbers, that would have looked weird.

Resistance was futile; we have been assimilated.
It would be nice if the medical community would choose not to use terminology that is belittling and insulting;
but at least we know what they are talking about.
Now if only they would learn a thing or two about understanding US!
