Recently, a ZoneAlarm upgrade trashed something in my Win XP Pro installation that forced me to go into the Window's Recovery Console hiding on the installation disk. While in the console I repaired the System Files, but that process trashed many of the driver installation including the MS SQL Server drivers.

After loosing the SQL Drivers, Encore PRO stopped working. To fix it, I first made a copy of the database folder in the SQL Data directory, and then uninstalled Encore Pro and then SQL Server. With both components removed, I then reinstalled the software along with the SQL Server and all was well again.

If don't know why you lost the connection initially, or if you go through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling and find it works, then something on your computer made a mess of the installation.

During my ZoneAlarm cleanup, I used a program called XP Repair PRO. This did a great job of removing ZoneAlarm remnants. It requires Windows XP, but if you don't have XP, there is always ErrorKiller. ErrorKiller is almost as good, but it will work on the other OS made by Microsoft.

If none of this works, go into the help file for Encore Pro (can be accessed by double-clicking on the help file in the Encore Pro directory). Here is the default installation location for Encore Pro:
C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro

The Help file is called: EncorePro.chm and its Icon is a big yellow question mark. When you find it, open it with the mouse.

Once the help file is open, there is information for contacting Technical Support for the program if the above doesn't work.

Good luck,
Roger...

NoSlak,
I can feel your frustrations from 70 miles away, so I'm routing for you.

Here is your SQL Server Answer:
The SQL Server is on the Encore Pro CD. If you uninstall both Encore Pro and the SQL Server, you'll find the program will also install a fresh copy of SQL Server. However, don't forget to make a copy of your data directory just in case things go wrong.

The data file directory you are looking for is in this location:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL
When you get to the location above, copy the entire DATA folder to another location. For now, just placing it on the Desktop will work until you go through the installation again. When you make a copy, don't drag it, but use COPY and PASTE from the Explorer menu.

As for Zone Alarm, that was just a reference to tell how my installation got in trouble. It doesn't matter how your installation got corrupted or why, the fix I gave you in my initial response should work.

Good Luck!

Frustrated

Everything is fine except for the dang My Encore

Post by Frustrated » Fri Aug 11, 2006 10:06 pm

I have the SQL running niceley in my task bar but I still get the dang error message. I already installed and reinstalled, used system restore after corrupting my Encore Pro by trying to reinstall the My Software.

But from what I have seen, the My Encore is only a graphic representation of the same data as Encore Plus, for example, it doesnt say at 1313 hours you had an event or your pressure was increased.

(Sorry, OP, for temporarily hijacking this thread)

Roger,

I thought it was just me! Last time I updated ZA, bam! My computer wasn't functioning, and I had to repair XP. I'm so glad to know it wasn't only me. Do you know if it was a widespread issue?

(/end thread hijack)

I'm lucky, though, my SQL is still running.

Good luck, OP! I wish I could be of more help!

Hello Frustrated,
I’ve had that name more than once in my life.

It is hard to understand what you should do because you didn’t post the error message you are seeing. However, if it is a bad install or a damaged file or a bad registry entry, then consider doing the following:

Try to Un-Install Encore, but be sure to make a backup copy of the data folder before doing the Un-Install. Don’t try to remove the SQL Server at this stage because MyEncore seems to be working with it just fine from what you indicate.

Once the program is out and you reboot, then try to install Encore again. If that works, then you are out of the woods.

If you aren’t, then consider getting one of the two programs to cleanup some windows problems:
XP Repair Pro 2006 Windows XP Systems

ErrorKiller – Not as good, but it works on all windows systems.

Either of these programs should be able to cleanup what is probably a missing file or a bad registry entry, if that is the problem.

Of course you can always call Encore Pro support. The person answering the phone in support is good at solving problems and will be able to be more helpful.

Hello CollegeGirl,
When ZoneAlarm caused their last fiasco the ruckus lasted for weeks on their forum. I think there were hundreds of people who got their systems trashed because the program creating the install put some old files in the installer and took an act of congress and some computer finesse to get cleaned up.

This wasn’t ZoneAlarm’s first fiasco but I think it was their biggest ever. I’ve been hesitant to upgrade since that happened, but did allow an upgrade a few weeks ago and it went fine.

Hope you were able to recover from the assault to the computer.
