ResMed advertising dodginess?

Post by -tim » Thu Jul 05, 2012 3:52 am

When I go to this page:
http://www.resmed.com/us/products/s9_se ... c=patients I see an interesting image of the side of an S9 which shows a clock.

Why does it show a clock? It doesn't have one. Their competition does but they don't. The interesting thing is that if you select a country on their web page that is Australia or United Kingdom, the clock isn't there. Could this be because they have been taken to court for all sorts of questionable business behavior in the past in Australia and fined but they can get away with it in the USA?

This is a guess and I haven't seen one, except for pics -- but could that be the humidifier setting instead of a clock. The reason I suggest that is the markings "on the clock".

There is nothing like that on any S9 product I've ever seen.

It is a nice looking clock.

None of the other pictures on that page show a clock. Yeah, it is nice looking but not part of any reality I'm familiar with, though I would like it to be. Maybe an option for an upcoming model?

Maybe that is just for display to go along with this statement from the website.
With its sleek contours and compact size, the S9 Elite looks as natural at your bedside as a clock radio.

I wonder if their mention of the clock radio was to sidetrack from Fisher and Paykel who I think have a patent in their "cpap with a clock" feature.

They would need one on the humidifier side for my setup.

Don't put clocks on CPAP machines.

One of the rules of good sleep hygiene is not to be able to see any clock from your bed.

How are you supposed to keep a sleep log if you don't look at a clock?

i guess i'm a rule breaker then, although i've never seen the official rules of good sleep hygiene or who proclaimed them. when i wake up i always glance at the clock to see what time it is. most normal people have a clock in the bedroom for the obvious reason of looking at it. a clock on the side of the cpap is a good idea.

Write down what time you go to bed and what time you get up.

Keeping a true log of when you sleep is impossible because you are not aware of when you are asleep. Only an EEG will record sleep properly.

If you are looking at a clock during the night it tends to cause you to worry about not sleeping and makes your insomnia worse.

You can look at a clock all night long for all I care, but putting a clock on a CPAP machine is a stupid idea.

I don't have insomnia.
I have TWO clocks where I can see them.
The good alarm clock has missing display segments, but is otherwise perfect;
so I read the other one--a cheapie with a crappy alarm but a good display.
Yes, I'm cheap!

Looking at a clock tells me "I got four more hours, sweet dreams", or it can say "I gotta be up in 15 minutes" ...

From the cpaptalk sleep hygiene expert:
robysue wrote: Cleaning up the your sleep hygiene may help. The big thing in sleep hygiene that you need to consider changing is your behavior when you find yourself awake at 3:00 AM.

First, my guess is that as soon as you wake up, you start looking at the clock and start to calculate how little sleep you've gotten, how little time there is before the alarm goes off, how long you've been awake and unable to get back to sleep. In this case, the first thing you need to do is ditch the clock. Turn it around or put in on the far side of the room. Just make it hard for you to look at the clock the instant you realize you are awake. Not knowing the time often helps folks to NOT start worrying about how little time there is before the alarm clock goes off in the morning.

I read this and hid my clock. Seems to help.
