Nasal pillows not ment for Hi pressure ???
SOmeone told me today that nasal pillows like my Swift are not ment for peopl like me who use 15 cm of air on the CPAP .
Any truth to this ???

Don't know about the Swift. The Breeze, also nasal pillows interface, can handle up to 30 cm/h20 according to it instruction booklet. Thas was thirty, not a typo.

Re: Nasal pillows not ment for Hi pressure ???
That's another "urban myth" perpetuated by DME's and by doctors who get their info from DME's. Nasal pillows interfaces work fine up in the stratospheric pressures. Some people (me!) might need to add an extra homemade strap around the nasal assembly area to stabilize it perfectly.NoSlak wrote:SOmeone told me today that nasal pillows like my Swift are not ment for peopl like me who use 15 cm of air on the CPAP .

But bottom line is that nasal pillows masks are not any worse about sealing well at high pressures than regular masks are. All masks are more apt to spring leaks at higher pressures. The Activa nasal mask is the best in the nasal mask category at not leaking; however, in general it's usually easier to get and keep a good seal with nasal pillows than with a regular nasal (covers the nose) mask -- at any pressure, imho.
Heated humidification is an especially good idea when using any mask - nasal, nasal pillows, or full face - at high pressures.

I'm also at 14, and my Breeze nasal pillows have no problem dealing with that pressure...with a little help from nasal lubrication (Vaseline).

I've just been posting on an earlier thread about nasal pillows and high pressure. Mine is currently set at 19 cm and I've had trouble with my comfort gel nasal mask. I got in touch with Resmed in the UK, and their advice was that the Swift system might be uncomfortable at such a high pressure!
You are obviously the living proof that the manufacturers don't know their own product!

Mark,
After 19 Years of fighting with the regular silicone masks, with all their leaks and head gear issues, the ResMed Swift is the next best thing to sliced bread in my opinion.
At first I didn't think it was going to work out due to all the nasal pain I had with it, so I had to switch of and use the regular mask every other night. But after 2 weeks all the nasal pain was gone and it has been working fine with no issues ever since. The mask does not create any soreness what so ever, and just feels like it is floating there, due to it not having to be so tight.
Good Luck with it !

When my DME rep came to deliver my machine etc. I noticed he had the wrong mask - - my Dr., at my request, had prescribed a swift pillows mask. The rep's first response was that a swift pillows mask could not have been ordered because it would not work with a pressure as high as mine, which is 12. I assured him that he was wrong. He assured me that no Dr. would order such a mask because it would not work. I assured him that it did work during my triation study. He insisted I was wrong. I showed him the prescription. He still insisted that no one had ordered the swift pillow mask. Now here is where my ability to read upside down writing came in handy, because I was able to read his order form and locate where it indicated that a swift pillow mask had been ordered. Then, and only then, did he relent and agree that one had been requested. Of course he did not have one with him and had to send it to me via UPS.
Why, you sly patient you! Tricking your honest DME by reading upside down! Now here is where my ability to read upside down writing came in handy, because I was able to read his order form and locate where it indicated that a swift pillow mask had been ordered
