Changed from Quattro FX to Mirage Quattro

Post by spitracer » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:50 am

Hi All,

Just finishing up my 3rd week on the hose and find myself looking forward to going to sleep every night and waking up feeling better.

I thought I would share my experience with my first full face mask the Quattro FX. After reading a number of reviews I thought I would try this mask first as I knew I would have a second chance at another mask if this one didn't work out. My sleep study was with a Mirage Quattro (although maybe it was a little older model than what I now have). The first real issue I had was the medium for the FX seemed a little to small and the large a little to big....figures! I went with the medium. After the first couple of nights I started using a lay in liner as I didn't enjoy the feel of the gasket on my face, plus I would get "farting noises" when the liner especially around the mouth would break seal and flutter....I blamed the cat! The lay in liner was a pain so I ordered a Pad-a-Cheek liner and secured it to the mask, a big improvement. Other issues I had was it seemed the mask wanted to climb my nose which caused two issues. 1) the straps became very close to my eyes and 2) the bottom of the seal got very clost to my lips causing leaks with very little movement of my head. I also experienced a sore top of my head from the straps.

So finally I stopped back at my DME and we discussed what I might swith to and I kind of wanted to try a FX nasal Pillow or a Liberty (if any one wants to trade a FX or Liberty nasal pillow for a Quattro FX let me know), but after looking at my options I went with a Mirage Quattro. All I can say after the first night is WOW!

The MQ in medium is perfect fit for my face size, it's slightly bigger than the FX medium and slightly smaller than the large FX. It also seems a little broader across the nose wher the FX seemed to press on the side of my nose especially if I was sleeping on my side. I also love that the straps go around the back of my head instead of over the top. This seems to keep the mask from wanting to pull up my nose and doesn't make the top of my head sore....plus the top strap on the FX wanted to make my hard stand up. The MQ seems also more tolerant of me sleeping on my side than the FX from a comfort standpoint as it didn't seem to move side to side as much. I was also able to use my Pad-a-Cheek liner although it doesn't cover the forehead pad which doesn't really bother me anyways.

So thats my report.

Thanks everyone for being so supportive when I have asked questions.

Cheers Chris

I just got a Liberty and have a small pillow to trade for a medium (yes it's posted in the pillow exchange thread)
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI

PM me if you are interested in trading. I have a Liberty Hybrid large with all the pillows - I tried to use it on one night - used it for about an hour and went back to my trusty old Mirage Quatro
