Re: New Lansinoh ?
I guess we'll have to switch our recommendations , then.
Can't really complain about a change that makes a product better for its intended purpose.
Those of us using it 'off label' just have to use something else--and it seems, better priced.

Re: New Lansinoh ?
That's very good what Lizistired found at the natural store.
I made 7 pharmacies, I found only 2 tubes of the old product. For sure the recipe has changed.
In one of the pharmacies the pharmacist sold to me 15 grams of pure lanolin the one they use to prepare special recipes. This is yellower and thick, it cost $1.60 for 15 grams; the Lansinoh tube is 56 grams and costs $13.10 with the taxes etc when on sale. Evidently it's better to buy from the natural foods store or from the pharmacist. I have thought to go see at the natural store and I forgot in any case I had no hope it would be cheap because here all the natural stuff is pricier.
So, Lansinoh now is for breast feeding mothers only

Re: New Lansinoh ?
Lanolin (sheep grease) is also used in washes made for wool diaper covers (for cloth diaperers), so it makes sense that you'd be able to buy it in its original state for that. I'm sure it has other commercial uses as well. Surely someone will put it in a tube that markets it specifically to CPAP nasal pillow users and make a killing

I have been using the new lilac tube for a couple of months now and have found no differfence. Do you think it may be because the weather is hotter now and it is easier to melt or get softer. Perhaps you should give your tube a squeeze all over to move the stuff around in the tube, it may have separated and needs to be mixed up more.

Re: New Lansinoh ?
Another caution, Lansinoh is purified; the natural lanolin may be more likely to cause reactions in people allergic to wool.

Re: New Lansinoh ?
HPA refers to "Highly Purified Anhydrous." See http://content.karger.com/ProdukteDB/pr ... doi=318228 or http://content.karger.com/ProdukteDB/pr ... 318228.pdf if you have access.
HPA refers to the source of lanolin they're using. Since lanolin is a natural product, there can be considerable batch to batch variation in color, viscosity, purity and other characteristics of the raw material. Suppliers of lanolin to the pharmaceutical industry have been puffing the merits of their ultra-pure (ultra-expensive, too) products for some time. Depending on what it's used for, that level of purity may have merit, or it may simply be that their marketing departments are promoting a more expensive version of a common ingredient in order to differentiate them from all the other companies that are selling the same thing to the industry. I have one vendor trying to convince me that we should specify the use of their high-purity version of a common component. But it has to be kept under nitrogen gas to avoid oxidation in order to retain its purity. That isn't really practical once a patient opens the container.
FWIW, the German study they cite compares using the lanolin preparation against going "Commando." So at best, all they can conclude is that it's better than nothing.
For use around the schnoz, anything will work. My preference is to use a very thin layer of K-Y jelly.

Re: New Lansinoh ?
The allergy issue was mentioned in an old thread--that I cannot find at the moment.

Re: New Lansinoh ?
I would imagine that the lanolin purchased through a pharmacist to use in compounding would have to be pretty pure.

Re: New Lansinoh ?
Now that I have the old and new version of Lansinoh I will compare them and see if I'm wrong about the difference on thickness. In any case I have Lansinoh for 2 years or 3 if the new is good too plus my 15 grams from the pharmacy.
It is good to know we are not dependent on Lansinoh's at least this experience lead us to find other avenues.
OT: By the way Traget is not arrived BUMMER, I wanted to see what new they have there. Walmart doesn't go to be happy because they are planing to establish stores close to Walmart shopping centers (event really close to them), the fight will start in a couple of months; nice for the buyers I hope.

Re: New Lansinoh ?
I just saw the price they are charging for the stuff. Yeow! Try K-Y or Astroglide. They're non-greasy, wash off with water, extremely cheap, readily available everywhere, and a very thin layer is all you need.rosacer wrote:Now that I have the old and new version of Lansinoh I will compare them and see if I'm wrong about the difference on thickness. Re: New Lansinoh ?
The Now brand I purchased is like a heavy, yellow paste, so I returned to the Lansinoh brand. Since you use so little, I think it's worth the expense. Just ordered more on Amazon for $7.50 to verify that they haven't changed the product.

Slarty,..... Lansinoh cost about $10 at Walmart, and the tube lasts me about a year, I don't consider that expensive.

Re: New Lansinoh ?
There was a lot of talk a few years back about allergies being caused by lanolin in various hand cremes, lotions, etc.chunkyfrog wrote:The allergy issue was mentioned in an old thread--that I cannot find at the moment.
A few years later, the consensus seems to be that lanolin allergy is not as prevalent as once thought, although it does sometimes happen.
Remember, that even if some people are allergic to something, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it in general, just that those who are allergic to that particular thing should avoid it.

Of course, there are people who refuse to use an animal-derived product, just on principle.
Maybe cocoa butter?

Re: New Lansinoh ?
I have bad news at least for me I tried the lanolin from the pharmacy. That is very thick no problem there but THAT STINKS THE SHEEP TERRIBLY !!!!!! I don't think that will be a good smell to have on my nasal pillows
It is indeed all the way pure, I tell you A chance I didn't put that on my nostrils just before going to bed
@ kitatonic
Did you check if the NOW lanolin smells the sheep?
I will check for something at the natural store and ask if that has a NATURAL smell or not .
