theophylline, trazodone helps???

does anyone else have any experience with good sleep apnea meds? I'm starting trazodone since I heard it helps slow wave sleep? my stage 3 sleep is 0.5% when it should be 5%. I was taking theophylline too for 5 days but it didn't really help...
I'm also taking 50k a week of vit D at least and 4500mg/vit C a day

You've asked this before. You need to ask your doctor about this. We are not medical professionals. However, to the best of my knowledge (including taking Trazodone), neither addresses central and/or obstructive sleep apnea.

A medication that does help improve sleep architecture - IF ALL ELSE IS CORRECTED - is Remeron (it comes in a generic form). A known side effect of this medication is that it promotes better sleep architecture. However, you must be using your ASV unit for it to be effective. It will not address either the central or obstructive sleep apnea.

There are no magic cures. You need to take ownership of making the world better and make your therapy work.

Where are you getting all these drugs you are trying out. Taking a prescribed drug for a few days and then changing to another or even adding another does not work. Being under a doctors care and being prescribed drug by that person and taking it as directed is the way to go...not "trying and testing" on your own. Ever hear the expression "fried brain" that may be a old expression but I think it may end up happening to you unless you start following DOCTORS orders, not your own.
You have been told many times over the past months to go to a doctor and follow that doctors orders. Self medicating does not work.

Why worry about the amount of time you spend in various stages of sleep unless it is causing you daytime sleepiness?

Trazadone is very sedating and will just make you sleepier. Theophyllline has a stimulating effect and will make it harder to get to sleep. Theophylline is for asthma and COPD patients. I've have never heard it being prescribed to treat sleep apnea.

Are you getting enough hours of sleep at night on your xPAP? You'll never get to deeper stages of sleep if you nap a few hours here and there. You need a good 8 hours of undisturbed sleep (on CPAP without events and awakenings) to get to deeper levels of sleep.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on your xPAP therapy and forget about finding a drug to solve your problems.

well I can't sleep through the night on the machine for years now. klonopin and trazodone help, maybe klonopin might be better, I'm not sure.
by the way is Mississippi good for sleep apnea or asthma? I have bad wheezing and I heard that hot/humid weather might help asthma

do you mean like mountain regions like Seattle or North Carolina or like Texas, Arizona desert, hot and arid? I thought florida is ranked high among best asthma cities
a few weeks after I moved back to the US from southeast asia I started to have asthma and sleep apnea, could never figure out why
I noticed that when I tilt my head back something feels swollen, don't know if it's my neck or head. maybe there's some fat or fluid. my last MRI was clear except for a cyst in my clivus. some doc told my friend that neck exercises help and you can be free of cpap

I was going to pulmonologists/allergist for years but they never gave me allergy shots, I finally started. I tried allegrad but doesn't seem to do much

After reading this post by you "I don't even use the machine because I think I'm already brain damaged." I wonder if you might be on the wrong forum? People here can help you with cpap concerns but that doesn't seem to be what you are looking for.

I had a terrible night, one of the worst ever even on asv w/o oxygen. I think it was the trazodone and nose congestion. maybe trazodone depresses breathing? I think I'm going back to klonopin to stay asleep and fall asleep

Trazadone is an antidepressant, but if you Google side effects you'll see it can cause some respiratory/nasal issues (I found out the hard way decades ago when it was prescribed by mistake! You keep taking meds meant for things not OSA related and then wondering why nothing works... meds aren't supposed to work for OSA anyhow, not directly, and from what I've heard you shouldn't necessarily even be on an ASV machine, so why do you keep up this nonsense and then come here saying how lousy you feel? Do you ever read our advice, let alone take it?

anyway some articles say klonopin helps and trazodone may help deeper stage sleep, but I woke up again today on the asv/oxygen feeling tired with chest pains but better than yesterday

No, this is false. You have been on this forum for months, asked the same questions over and over again, ignored ALL advice given to you, gotten hostile, deleted posts you don't like, then used alternate user names to start over again.

As many other people have said - Trazadone is an antidepressant, it is used off label as sleeping aid. I tried this and while it helped me getting to sleep, my central apnea went through the roof. All sleeping aids can cause OSA and central apnea in certain patients to increase. I found through lifestyle adjustments, cutting out the caffeine after 12 noon, diet, exercise, and stress management therapy, I have learned to go to sleep without a sleeping pill.

It is hard work, but it can be done, it just too me a long time to do it. I now average 7 hours of sleep at night. I have a set routine, I go to bed around the same time each night and get up around the same time each morning.
