Remstar Auto ? series and model?
Remstar Auto ? series and model?
Hello
I'm hoping someone can clear my confusion.
I have the following machine on loan prior to purchase:
"Remstar Auto A Flex. Ref: 551P"
Is this the PRS1 Auto CPAP and the next one down from the 60 series?
I want to make sure that what I am testing is the same as that I will buy .
My thanks in advance to Pugsy and anyone else who can help.

Re: Remstar Auto ? series and model?
It's an old model... the PR 1 or others will say specifically what they are, not just hint at it.
Re: Remstar Auto ? series and model?
You are correct; it is the first version of the Respironics PR1 Series, International Version.

Re: Remstar Auto ? series and model?
That's a perfectly fine machine.
It's the Philips Respironics Series One Auto machine.
The "upgraded" model is the Philips Respironics Series 60 Auto machine. The PRS60 has a heated hose.
Right now, the PRS60 doesn't work with SleepyHead, so the PRS1 would actually be preferable in some sense.

Re: Remstar Auto ? series and model?
Agree with Archangle. If you confirm that the machine looks like the one in the link provided in the post above then it is a perfectly acceptable machine. Heated hoses are nice but we got by for years without them in some way or another. If we need to...a stand alone heated hose will do the job too, maybe not as fancy but will get the job done. I have used a stand alone heated hose with my PR S1 machine.
Respironics does make it a bit difficult to determine models. System one only shows up on the humidifier section and the PR part doesn't show up at all but Phillips Respironics does but people don't put the 2 together.
If your machine doesn't look like the one above...then it is likely a MUCH older than 60 series version.
The 60 series machines were just released not long ago and to have a model that is just one prior to it...is not a bad thing at all.

Re: Remstar Auto ? series and model?
Thank you everyone - all is now clear. (It is the same as the pic in the link).
After first night on the machine I was pleasantly surprised that the pressures were much the same as those experienced during my 10 years on the Resmed S7 - and much, much less than those experienced in the short trial period I recently had with the Resmed S9. Just one thing, though .... the intermittent short, sharp puffs of raised pressure were very uncomfortable and kept me awake a lot of the time - do others find that and do you get used to it in time?

Re: Remstar Auto ? series and model?
I'm not quite sure what puffs you're talking about. Those could be "pressure pulses" used to detect whether your airway is open to find "central apneas." They could be the variations caused by "FLEX", which can be turned down or off. It could be the "auto" function, which can be turned off.bouncer wrote:Just one thing, though .... the intermittent short, sharp puffs of raised pressure were very uncomfortable and kept me awake a lot of the time - do others find that and do you get used to it in time?
Yes, you'll probably get used to them.
How quick are these "puffs", when do they happen, do they go up and right back down, etc.?
Are they uncomfortable as in too much pressure, or is the change the problem?

Re: Remstar Auto ? series and model?
Hello Archangle
Puffs last only a couple of seconds - The rise doesn't seem to bother me so much but the abrupt fall again a couple of seconds later does. It is not the Flex, as that was turned off. From what you say, I think it may be the pulse checking the airway.

Re: Remstar Auto ? series and model?
Some people seem to be super sensitive to those puffs of air. I have use a PR S1 machine (in fact 3 of them) and I never ever noticed the puffs. I have seen others say that they are highly disruptive to their sleep. Our bodies do normally adjust to little things though that we initially are hyper aware of so hopefully yours will also.
