Should System One Humidifier Tank Be Emptying Each Night?

Post by fredmertz » Sat Jun 09, 2012 7:08 am

I have the PR System One S60 with humidifier and I am surprised at how little of the water in the humidifier gets used even with heat and humidifier settings turned all the way up.

I can fill to the 25% line and still have some water left in the morning. Is that typical? I am usually pretty dry and the humidifier doesn't seem to be helping much as is.

Depends where you live, what the humidity's like in the room you sleep in (and keeping it colder in there will use less water - unless you're e.g. in Colorado or Phoenix ), so there are many things that could make a difference.

Its just turned into winter here and I've had the same water in the tank for a week. I use a setting of 2.0 on a resmed H5i and I've recently dialed the temp up to the low 70s (F)

I don't have the new PR Sys One Auto 60 series, but the humidification technology from the prior units (before this upgrade like the one I have) are probably the same as the newer 60 series unless some additions have been give to it http://systemonehumiditycontrol.respironics.com/.
Unless I set my humidifier to 'Classic' mode and force the unit to humidify only at the level I set, regardless of the actual temperature and humidity in the room, it works different than the 'Auto' mode. On the 'Auto' mode, it is completely reactionary based upon temperature and relative humidity in the room. I have my humidifier set for 4 'Auto', but it uses the information it gathers to provide more or less than the actual setting I have, based upon temperature and relative humidity in the room, to maintain the closest to my set/desired humidification setting of 4 "Auto'. The water usage, which varies night to night and season to season depending on where you live, is going to be less consistent on 'Auto' mode than it is going to be on 'Classic mode. Sometimes (on 'Auto') my humidifier tank can last 4 - 5 days before needing to be refilled and other times it is half way down and needs to be topped of after one night.

What pressure are you using? The higher the pressure, the more air your mask vents, and the more water you use. The water tank is sized to hold enough water for someone with high pressure and a leaky mask.
