Cannot sleep without Cpap (addicted now?)
Cannot sleep without Cpap (addicted now?)
Dh is in hospital so I thought I will, for a change, sleep without cpap!
It didn't work at all. After tossing and turning I got fed up - I was wide awake - got up and baked rusks (1 o'Clock in the morning!)
At 3.30am I went back to bed WITH cpap and enjoyed a fews hours of sleep. H'm, will not try that again.

Re: Cannot sleep without Cpap (addicted now?)
Thats good.
About once a month I convince myself that it will be just fine to take a little nap without the hose. I justify it telling myself that it will be a good guage to see if im "healing" at all toward eventually not needing it.
Needless to say, I wake up feeling like I just fell off a bus in Tijuana. I dont know where I am, theres a freight train running through the middle of my head, and im struggling to breathe.
So if youre addicted, its the first good addiction ive heard of outside of being addicted to being nice to people every second of every day no matter what they do or say to you. I wish i had that one.

Re: Cannot sleep without Cpap (addicted now?)
I can ONLY sleep with my machine on as I'm fully dependent on it. I tried to take a short nap after an eight-hour flight once but was unable to sleep at all ....

I also find breathing to be addictive. The withdrawal is horrible.Cannot sleep without Cpap (addicted now?)

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hope he'll be home soon. Just wondering, What's the connection between hubby's being in the hospital and thinking it was OK to sleep without cpap?

Re: Cannot sleep without Cpap (addicted now?)
I envy you people who feel you are addicted to CPAP. I could toss it in a minute, except I know I can't. For various reasons I haven't consistently used my mask this last month. I had minor head surgery and a few other things going on. I've noticed in the last couple of days how fatigued I am, like before I ever started using CPAP. I guess that's a good thing, b/c that tells me how much I need it. I used it faithfully last night and will continue to do so... I really want to become addicted. I had all the newbie issues last nite ... woke a bunch of times, etc. Hope tonight will be better.
Hope your husband gets better swiftly.

Well, I just thought seeing that I am home alone, my snoring won't bother no one. AND, to be honest, I am scared . . . you all know about the crime in RSA - with my mask on I am not able to hear so well. Yes, the alarm is activated but of course not in the sleeping rooms.DoriC wrote:What's the connection between hubby's being in the hospital and thinking it was OK to sleep without cpap

Tasty buttermilk rusks! To start a perfect day - have a cuppa coffee and 1 or 2 rusks! What do you guys name it?
Thank you, DoriC - you know what it is like when they are not well - I am worried, nervous, terribly nervous at the moment.DoriC wrote:Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hope he'll be home soon
Please, pray hard! He (65yrs) is a RA sufferer and has NO blood circulation in the lower legs (and feet) and has infected foot ulcers.
On Thursday morning he suddenly developed septic arthritis in his right wrist joint. It is almost impossible to find a vein for the drip - now the drip is in his toe.
This is giving him terrible pain - ortopedic surgeon is seeing him tonight. After dr's visit, Dh will sms me - so now I am waiting (already 9.20pm!)
The foot ulcers are looking very good already and the wrist is not so swolen anymore but still red.
Ja, drs explained to him that both legs are going to be amputated one day. Not both at once though. When he gets home (Tuesday morning after 5day drip) there is going to be alot of talking and thinking on how to change our house to make it wheelchair friendly. I can't believe that I am saying all of this. One still thinks it is NOT going to happen! OMW - it is so painful to see him suffer like this.
ems - and you know what I LOVE about my cpap therapy - when I put my mask on there is no time for saying prayers - I am gone in a sec - happens every night.ems wrote:Hope tonight will be better.
I also hope tonight and every night will be better for you - good luck!

Re: Cannot sleep without Cpap (addicted now?)
We have been doing that at home too for my mother. WE had track installed in the ceilings last month for a lift mechanism for when she can't stand any more. We are working at changing the bathroom to get the wheel chair into it all the way. We have to replace the vanity with a small basin but dad is throwing a fuss about it. Mostly because my sister never bothers to ask his opinion, she just goes a head and does things and he hates that.Marietjie wrote:

Ask for advice from people who do this for a living. We have a social worker involved now and worked with a contractor. It means really LOOKING at your house, your furniture, your lifestyle. Do it now when things are not required to be done quickly without having time to consider. Good luck with it.

Oh my - I will not tolerate unprofessional advice - with this big change I want little stress. Little bits of stress builds up until one day . . !? I (luckily) already noticed my immediate family awhile ago that sleeping over is NOT a good idea - that I can no longer handle that. All that cleaning before they arrive, feeding them, then cleaning everything again. And then ??? between their visits we don't hear from them. Do one call that 'love'?'BlackSpinner wrote:she just goes a head and does things and he hates that.
I am so glad you replied - blackspinner - yes, we are SO fortunate to have a rehab hospital not far from where we stay. Dh is a super handy man but if there is anything he is not able to install we can ask the staff at the rehab hospital to refer us to contractors that do those things.BlackSpinner wrote:Ask for advice from people who do this for a living
We will pay them a visit and have a look around - specially bed, bathroom & toilet. It will be great if we could have a proper hospital bed for him.
I tried to nurse my mother (in standard (low) bed) it broke my back!
Now that we've still got time, we will also visit the Med.Equipment shop. Oh my goodness, what is all this going to do to DH's mental state? I mean, it is not like shopping for a new car, is it?
There is a saying (sounds good in my native language - don't know if it is correct in English - but I will try)

those hormones that allowed you to dip so low on oxygen (the same hormones that people at 15.000ft sleep with when their use to less oxygen)is depleted now and you'll feel the result.
