"Mask Fit Check" is what exactly?
Following up on my previous post, the Clinician's Manual on my new cool machine makes reference to a "Mask Fit Check" as if it's some sort of specific diagnostic you run when you first put on your mask. But other than that I don't see any other reference to it, EXCEPT if they're alluding to the ability of the machine to alert you any time ("Mask Alert") you have a significant leak detected. Do you all believe that's what the "Mask Fit Check" is all about? Thanks!

Re: "Mask Fit Check" is what exactly?
mask fit check is simply a time when you turn the machine on to check for leaks at pressure. nothing more, nothing less. you don't have to enable it because it's something we all do when we turn the machine on anyways.

I saw this in the manual. I've never enabled it.
• Mask alert - You can enable or disable the mask alert setting. If this feature is enabled, the mask alert will appear on the display screen when a significant mask leak is detected, and an audible alert will sound.

If the machine's in CPAP mode, the above is correct. In APAP mode, the machine starts at the highest prescribed pressure, then slowly drops to the lowest prescribed pressure over several breath cycles before going into normal operation.greatunclebill wrote:mask fit check is simply a time when you turn the machine on to check for leaks at pressure. nothing more, nothing less. you don't have to enable it because it's something we all do when we turn the machine on anyways.
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!
Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI

Re: "Mask Fit Check" is what exactly?
Is the same true for a Resmed APAP? It doesn't show up on my graphs, which start out at my minimum pressure of 5. But it might explain why I seem to have trouble breathing when I first turn on the machine.

Gertrude: 5 l/h2o is a little low for minimal pressure. What is your 95 percentile?gertrude wrote:Is the same true for a Resmed APAP?
