I certainly don't like the idea of sleeping without CPAP, now that I have started. I have a jump start compressor with a fresh and well treated 20 AH battery and a sigarett lighter output, just like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f99qxEn ... re=related

And since my machine accepts 12 volt directly, I only needed this:
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/intell ... -cord.html
to complete my backup plan.

The Devilbiss is also so smart that if you connect both 110/220 volt and 12 volt at the same time, it will use 110/220 volt as long as it's available and automatically switch to 12 volt if the power goes out. Great if you have unreliable wall power.

When I'm driving while tired, not being able to sleep without CPAP is a good thing.

It is so odd to me. The first time I ever put on a CPAP mask I felt like I was suffocating and couldn't catch my breath. Now I feel like I am suffocating if I don't wear it.

I have a suspicion that after one night in an emergency shelter,
the other occupants would be BEGGING the management to get me set up.
Believe me, if I have to sleep without my machine--nobody else sleeps--PERIOD!

I can't sleep without mine either and as I was reading everyone's posts I decided that if anything goes awry with my machine, "my" sleep center is about 3 miles from me. Wonder if they would take me in as a drop in?

When I travel I have an extension cord and surge suppressor. Sometimes need a long cord in hotels...

Last year we were in rural Massachusetts when the power went out. When it came back on, my cpap started. The room tv did not. I am Canadian. If I needed a replacement machine, I suspect I would immediately drive home, ending my vacation.

I have used my CPAP faithfully for three years now. Every night! I have traveled many places with my CPAP and had the power go out for a couple of hours but I have never had a night of no sleep. The power outages were usual and I wondered how the night would go, but they never lasted very long. I recently drove my elderly parents from CO to see cousins in AZ. The first night of the trip I realized I left the CPAP at home! How could I forget it!? I tried to get one sent to Las Vegas which was near my destination. I tried calling my provider for help. I was in a place where cell reception was bad and my call kept dropping and each time I called back I got a new person whom I had to explain everything to. Each person had a different take on what my "solution" was. It was getting late and after many calls, I reached my wife and she was able to Overnight my CPAP to my final destination,( $150 ) just in time before the FEDEX office closed. I was so worried that I would be too sleepy to drive and we would be stranded until I could get some sleep. My days of staying up all night are long gone. I worried that the machine would get lost, or broken or that my wife did not ship the hose or the mask. When I got to my final destination the next day, my CPAP was waiting and I went right to sleep! I am currently planning a trip to Ireland and I am researching battery backups for my ResMed S8 Compact. Apparently ResMed does not make this anymore and there are no battery backups for this machine. Also, apparently I do not qualify for a new machine for two more years but if I was only two years in, I would have some options for getting a new machine. I may have to buy a new machine at full price just to have a machine that I can rely on when the power goes out. Still researching for the best solution. Now I am more motivated than ever to drop about 100 pounds to see if I can get of this machine. But I will never go anywhere without it.

I hear ya, I've only been on cpap for a month and a half and I can't imagine sleeping without it! Check out secondwind.com, they sell lightly used cpap machines. They're a much better deal than paying full price at a DME. You will need to have a Dr's prescription for the Cpap sent to them. good luck!

Coming from the PC world (I'm a full time computer technician) I've actually got almost all my electronics hooked up to a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

they generally cost between 100-150 but are well worth every penny!!

Image
This is the one I use (granted I also have my TV, set-top box alarm & cpap plugged in) but in the event of an outtage it will run just shy of 8 hours.
I usually only manage 8 hours so this is perfect for me!

Actually, "dieting" is not really a cure, there are people of all shapes and sizes, including thin, that are CPAPers.
I think the poster meant "dying"

I am ready to roll, whatever happens. Used my Intellipap Autoadjust on a 50 minute road trip last week.
In the car, using the "automotive power port"--you know, that round hole the baby always reached for?
If, make that WHEN, we have another power outage, I can pull it out right away and be hooked up in minutes.

About 4 yrs ago during hurricane Ike, we headed home from our yearly trek to Florida & brought the hurricane home with us - literaly. We had no power here for 8 days, a caring brother-in-law located a generator for me, so the last 5 days I got to sleep. The first 3 days, without CPAP I was suffocating, so needless to say I got no sleep. I plan to get a battery back up for traveling, but we have purchased a generator for home & if we lose power again, I'm ready.

The feeling of suffocating probably means to us that experience it that we are so adjusted to our therapy, we cannot stand to be without it. That's a good thing.

For power outage concerns, (and for camping) I finally got a motorcycle battery, a battery box, and a battery tender. The tender keeps the battery float charged, and since my bipap has a DC input, easy cheesy. Works great.

Just bring $ 2,000 in small bills, I'll bet they find you a cot. Jim
