surgery and general anesthesia

Post by kittymom » Thu May 10, 2012 8:54 am

Hi,
I had same day surgery last week with general anesthesia and in the recovery room my pulse ox kept dropping. I was in the recovery room for 6 hours before they let me go home. I am so tired and spaced out since the surgery, it will be a week tomorrow. Not on pain meds. Has anyione else experienced this?
Thanks.

Gosh, you kind of left out a lot of information, like: Are you currently being treated for OSA? If so, how long and how are you progressing? Were you experiencing exhaustion prior to surgery? Have you talked to your doctor about this? Surgery with general anesthetic is an insult to your body and it can take time for a complete recovery. It took me a year to recover from neck surgery.

If you have OSA, they should have been watching you and probably had you on your cpap. I had surgery and came right out of it but was a little loopy for a full day afterwards.

I would assume that if your pulse ox 'kept dropping' that they put you on oxygen. If they didn't...I would ask your doctor why.
