FF Cpap Mask that doesn't hurt nose bridge
FF Cpap Mask that doesn't hurt nose bridge
Hi,
I require a FF mask and previously tried the FlexiFit 431 with no sucess. The mask would always hurt my nose (in the morning) when i would wake up my nose would be red and bruised and eventually blister. I treid many different adjusments and made sure it was not to tight, and even tried the padacheek designed for that mask, but it still blistered. I have since returned the mask and now I am searching for a new FF mask that has less of an impact on the nose. I was looking at the resmed Mirage Quattro and FX, but have since read that these have a history of hurting the nose bridge. Can anyone suggest a mask that is easy on the nose bridge.

The mirage Quattro if properly sized and adjusted can work well. Since some of the pressure is transferred to the forehead pad. You may want to look at the total face masks like the FitLife.
If your pressure is above 15 you may find that your leak rate will be higher than what other users can achieve with lower pressures. When my machine reaches 18 pressure I am usually asleep, but my leak rates are nothing to brag about.

My suggestion:
The ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face mask. Properly sized and adjusted, it'll never hurt you.

If the mask is sized and fitted well they all will work, a few may need tape under the nose at the start, but it will toughen up in time. usually the problem is straps too tight. Jim

I've used both the Quattro and the Quattro FX full face masks, and I had issues with the bridge of the nose with the Quattro. To help, I tried moleskin, and the Gecko nasal pad. Both worked okay for the bridge, but I have had better luck using the Quattro FX. With the FX, I've not had any issues with the bridge of the nose hurting.

I agree with Goof... if any mask is "properly fitted", it will not leak. The magic word is "properly-fitted". The contours of your face may not allow a full face mask to fit properly either leak-wise or nose sores. I have a knot on my nose, so a full face mask will not fit properly. That is why I went to the mask I have now. For what it's worth... go to Resmed.com. They have some selected full face masks that fit shallow or big noses. They will mail you some plastic templates for proper fitting.

Re: FF Cpap Mask that doesn't hurt nose bridge
Hi, folks. Newbie APAP/CPAP user and struggling with a great deal of nose bruising/nose pain on bridge. Somewhere between small and medium face.
I saw someone on this list recommend: ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face.
Can you someone speak to the differences in the Mirage line and which one might be best?
Also, I don't yet understand how to work with my home provider in terms of picking a mask. They seem to be designed not for an informed consumer. I can't seem to get a sense of what's insured, what they provide, how they do fitting, etc. Any pointers most welcome....

Both the Quattro FX and the Quattro are great masks. I can't speak about the other models suggested
The FX may not be appropriate for you if you have pressures over 15 & have a tendancy to roll over during sleep a lot. Or at least it did not work for me.
if you decide on either mask.... follow the guidelines shown on Taming the Quattro Mask blog

BTW I too developed a red soreness at the bridge of my nose, but it went away after 3 days... I used a small bandaid at night until it healed.
good luck
Dave

Re: FF Cpap Mask that doesn't hurt nose bridge
I have used the Quattro FX for 6 months now with no problems at all with my nose or face pain. I had to master fitting it correctly to avoid leaks, but it now it fits pretty well, and I can sleep on my side and roll over without any problems.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
Re: FF Cpap Mask that doesn't hurt nose bridge
My experience has been the same as wm_hess. The Mirage Quattro hurt the bridge of my nose whereas the Quattro FX doesn't at all. Comparing the design of the two face cushions, the more rigid layer of silicone beneath the softer layer that contacts your face is narrower at the top on the Mirage Quattro than it is on the Quattro FX and I believe that is what causes the added pressure and pain. So, I believe that if the bridge of your nose is narrow, either mask can potentially work well but if the bridge of your nose is fairly wide, you have a better chance of not waking up in pain with the Quattro FX. Some have issues getting a good seal with the Quattro FX. But if you read up on the process for sizing and how to put it on, it might work well for you. I tried about 5 different masks before settling on the Quattro FX and have stuck with it with great results for about a year now.wm_hess wrote:I've used both the Quattro and the Quattro FX full face masks, and I had issues with the bridge of the nose with the Quattro. Better yet a FFM that doesn't touch the sensitive nose bridge - https://www.cpap.com/productpage/RespCa ... -Mask.htmlFF Cpap Mask that doesn't hurt nose bridge
It has a smaller footprint than all the other FFMs I looked at and works great for me.
I found the chin flap to be of no use and cut it off as explained in the CPAP Wiki.

Re: FF Cpap Mask that doesn't hurt nose bridge
I tried Mirage and after that didn't work at all, I sort of grew to like "FullLife Full Face CPAP Mask with Headgear." Compared to the full face mirage product, I came to see the wisdom of many adjustable straps. The trick for me is to not get it too tight, sleep on the side, strap placement....
BUT: nose still gets sore sometimes. Are there any similar masks folks could recommend with same design approach but softer on the nose, maybe face part made of softer material?
Thank you
