Sleep Apnea - High BP, High Col. - Related?
Hello all,
I have been really struggling lately. My CPAP did not seem to be helping much, and I just felt like crap all the time.
My Dr had me try a APAP for 2 weeks and my pressure was 14 instead of the 10 she had found on my sleep study.
I have also found out last week that I have high blood pressure and high colesterol, especially high triglycerides.
Does anyone know if these are related at all?
I have started meds for the 2 new problems, so hopefully in time, I will start to feel better.
I also have severe headaches, IBS, Diverticulosis. Man I feel old, and I am only 35.

I'm not a doctor, but I'm told that they probably are (or at least some of them).....probably at least the high BP and tryglycerides.
OSA really can screw up a person's system.
It's interesting that your doctor is apparently one who DOES believe that APAPs serve a purpose.
Best wishes,
Den

They are all a sign of ageing and bad life choices, we all have them. Sleep Apnea makes all levels of your health worse, and treating it will help everything else. The good news while it's a effort it's not adding things to your body to cause other health problems.

actually i was wondering the same thing my triglycerides were in the 900 range. Two medications i've taken only lowered them to 600 i am going to have my dr do a test after i've been on the cpap for about a month to see if there is a difference.I have also found out last week that I have high blood pressure and high colesterol, especially high triglycerides.
i also have kind of a high sleep pressure 19 (at least i think thats high)
I also had the same problems for 40 years, I don't think XPAP will cure it, but it wont make it worse. I had a Quad and am now on drugs with cholestrol @ 40 and 60. without much diet change. Too bad it isn't retroactive 50 years.

My triglycerides were over 640 and that was before the OSA diagnosis. He told me to loose the extra weight (20lbs). When I did, my triglycerides dropped down to well under 300. I was also told to eat 3 meals per day rather than trying to cram them into one or two meals. For most people getting down to the right weight and eating right helps out tremendously.

Tryglicerides
You know there may be a connection here to OSA.I recently was told by my Dr. that I am borderline diabetic,my good cholesterol is low,and the bad cholesterol is high.I read on the web out there somewhere that OSA can cause you to have elevated blood sugar levels and possibly diabetes.Who knew??Yikes!
