Change mask to swift fx

Post by slacker361 » Fri Apr 13, 2012 11:12 am

I like the mask but my Hyponea has gone from .5 to 5.6, now I know the S8 is sensitive to hypopnea events but still...... no my question is I had my humidity set for a nose mask not a nasal pillow mask , do you thing the increase humidity can be causing the hypopnea?

The humidifier doesn't have a setting for nasal mask vs nasal pillow mask. The cpap machine does but those settings only affect the leak that is reported and not the hyponea count.

Now changing the humidity level itself....one way or the other might in theory cause more congestion in the nasal passages which could possibly be misleading to the machine....perhaps sensing enough flow limitations from congestion to be called hyponeas. It would be a stretch though.

SAME HERE!!! I'm glad you wrote about this topic.

I previously had the PR Trueblue nasal mask and recently switched to Swift FX. I noticed my AHI went up. Not by much but I definitely feel more tired than usual.

Could it be mouth breathing? If not, what could it bed? Please help! The bridge of my nose is starting to feel better and I'd hate to go back to a nasal mask.

Could be mouth breathing if enough therapy pressure is going out the mouth instead of down the airway and causing less pressure in the airway which allows the events to occur BUT I would assume that mouth breathing that badly would have also presented itself with a nasal mask (over the nose) with same consequences. Unless someone mouth breathes more with a nasal pillow mask which would be unlikely unless there is more congestion or something.

Do you have the software to evaluate the leak line? If not..check my signature line.

Minor changes in AHI will happen from night to night even without a change in anything.
If you are feeling more tired than usual..are you waking up often fiddling with the mask or for some other reason. If you evaluate your AHI...there are 3 types of events...Clear Airway, Obstructive apneas and Hyponeas....is there a certain category that has increased? Your machine is the Auto IQ....how long have you had it? Was it being used in auto mode for a while and now being used in straight cpap mode?
The auto mode is only for 30 days. Is it possible that a pressure change to straight cpap is a factor?

thanks for the input guys. well I cut my setting for humidity in half last night and the hypopeneas got cut in half also.....Hmmmmm while this is not a double blind cross over controlled study, it does sound like there is a direct correlation..... I guess it makes sense in one you are fling the mask then the airway, the other is going directly to the airway....

thanks again

For Pusgy

I use the same chin strap with nasal and nasal pillow mask. My AHI was down to 0.8 with the nasal mask. Today its 2.1. I just installed sleepyhead on my system last night. I dont use the Auto IQ feature on my system. I received my machine on 12 March 2012. I will tell you that on the weekends i sometimes dont use it to cuddle with the wife Pressure is set at 9. Humidity level is set on 2.

I dont notice myself waking up and adjusting my mask. However I did notice that I build up flem in my throat ever since using the nasal pillows. I'd have to swallow the flem in order to breathe easier? Swallowing causes my airways to close and the CPAP machine blows against the blockage causing me to gasp for air.
