Mask face farts. Now Ultra Mirage FFM :0(
Hi guys
I'm trying the Ultra Mirage Full Face. I have already tried the Quattro , the Zzz FFM , the comfortfull 2 , the Comfort Gell FFM all those masks no good for me
The Ultra has been the best so far but when I'm on my back all the sudden it starts leaking around one side of the mouth. That doesn't happens right away when I put the mask on but after a couple of hours and that WAKES ME UP I turn asleep and find myself on my back with the mask leaking. It doesn't happens around de eyes.
I already tightened the straps, how tight that does be?
What about if I make a tissue gasket ? does it really works? It didn't with the Quattro any way, I don't like one once the Quattro
Thanks for the suggestions

Re: Mask face farts
Hi rosacer. Here are a few comments I made earlier about mask issues. Hope they help.
What helped me a lot was avoiding the straps being too tight. Once I got them adjusted to being "only-slightly-snug-almost-loose," the leak problems quickly reduced to being in the "no problem" area (under the red line reference on ResMed's ResScan software leak graph). Many of my central apnea events disappeared (because they weren't real centrals to begin with) and my AHI rose.
The reason why it's important to adjust the mask to being slightly snug, not tight and not loose, is that this allows the pillows/barrel or other mask sealing structures to remain INFLATED and ABLE to contour better with your face. Thereby, the softly inflated mask can give you the most comfortable and reliable seal. --papit

Re: Mask face farts
I thought twice about mask liners until I tried one with my Quattro FX and easing up on the straps a bit. My squeaky mask farts stopped, and any leaks were not felt on my face, and so I stopped waking up due to these. Big help. Now I use one every night. Mask liners helped me, they helps others, but as usual your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the answers.
I try to let the straps the loosely possible.
The liners are made of which material? Is it very thin or like a T-shirt material ? I could try to make some, it will be easier and cheaper than ordering it from USA. Could you please Max give an idea about that?
Thanks

Ya, well, after I said that, last night I found I needed to cinch them up a bit again.rosacer wrote:I try to let the straps the loosely possible.
You could probably use an old T-shirt, yes. I used an old 100% cotton very thin, very soft well washed smooth material polo shirt that was stuffed in a "don't wear any more" bag in the closet. About the same material probably. There's some issues with T-shirt / my polo shirt material as when I washed one I made, and stupidly stretched it out to dry it did not retain its shape and was worthless (I had to make another again) and it took me a couple tries to get the size right. The liners are made of which material? They are commercially available, Padacheek has them for my mask: http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html and I'll might buy those cuz it saves me the time, probably use a more appropriate material while rewarding them for their effort.

Re: Mask face farts
Pad a cheek's mask liner fabric is more stable than old t-shirt material.
I can see washing by machine in a little mesh bag--no dryer, though--dry flat seems best.
Nice, well made. I may order for another mask.
Note: my washer is a front-loader--easier on fabrics.
I might hand wash if I still had a top-loader.

Re: Mask face farts
Is my assumption correct that mask liners don't stop leaks, they just make them less noisy and noticeable?
I have tried liners and can not get an acceptable seal using the "mask fit" feature of my S8 without really cinching the mask down to the point of being uncomfortable.
What say you mask liner users?

I'm a liner noob, but I would say your assumption is correct. My leak rate is higher, but still in proper therapy range, and mine are less noisy and less noticeable and thus I sleep better.Jay Aitchsee wrote:Is my assumption correct that mask liners don't stop leaks, they just make them less noisy and noticeable?...What say you mask liner users?

Re: Mask face farts
Same think here. I noticed the noise was reduced, the air on my face not noticeable BUT the leaks were higher than without the home made liner. The higher AHI was around 1.2 which is not bad at all and that on 4 days of test. Last night I toke back the Headrest and today my teeth are sore again .by MaxDarkside on Thu Apr 05, 2012 11:12 am

I'm in trouble. Today I went for a teeth cleaning. I was told the pain I have on the front teeth is maybe produce by the pressure inside the sinuses . If that's the case I need to find another FFM ASAP or make work the Ultra Mirage FFM because it could happens that I would not be able at all to continue using the nasal pillows . I'm going to see the neumologist in May to see what he suggest.

Re: Mask face farts
No Avi. I'm speaking about a full face mask.
I have one as the first mask in the picture (Activa nasal mask) which works well if we speak about leaks but it pushes back my upper teeth and I'm concerned it would make another problem. On top of that it makes nasty marks on my face.
The leaks are not because of mouth breathing, for a weird reason I stopped again mouth breathing (I started again to be able to keep the tongue against the roof of the mouth while asleep).
I'm not sure what is producing the teeth pain if it's the pressure of the nasal pillow against the nostril, the pressure of the nasal pillows pushing the nose up (with the Headrest as is the pain is really severe and fast to start) or the air pressure inside the nostrils. I'm thinking it's the fact of pushing the nose up, but WHY? *@&!'+\*/?*$.¨^ all was going well . Even the Headrest deconstructed (nylon strap over the pillows) is producing the pain .
It seems I can't stand a mask making the pig's nose, it produces the teeth pain. Does the Breeze pushes the nose up? I was thinking at give a try to the Breeze, I would like to know if the Breeze can be used slightly touching the nostrils or you need to squeeze it against the nostril.

Re: Mask face farts
Is it possible that there is too much pressure as in straps too tight?....shouldn't have piggy nose at all. If piggy nose is present then things are too tight.rosacer wrote: It seems I can't stand a mask making the pig's nose, it produces the teeth pain.

Re: Mask face farts
Pugsy
I deconstructed my Headrest months ago. I fixed it to an elastic band, I put the band around my head and then I use the tight's leg to keep the cushion closed to my nostrils. Even that pressure which is way less than the pressure made on my nose (piggy nose) by the original Headrest not deconstructed produces the tooth pain. I don't think I have a piggy nose with the tight's leg, at the point that some times I wake up because the knot is loose and the pillows leaking.
Weird thing, one of the days I tried the Ultra Mirage FF I woke up the morning with the tooth kind of sore Is it the air pressure on the sinuses? the pillow pressure on the piggy nose? Is it that I'm grinding the teeth? Who should I go see, the neumologist (sleep apnea expert), the allergies Dr ( I use Omnaris (steroids spray) each day for the allergic rhinitis) or the ENT ?

Re: Mask face farts
Sometimes it is hard to tell who/what is the cause of the pain.
A couple of times I forgot to add water to my humidifier and it ran dry. I had horrible sinus issues and my teeth hurt. Felt just like a really bad sinus infection and the tooth pain we see from the sinus pressure.
So it is possible that tooth pain comes from the sinuses and not necessarily from the pressure of external forces like the nasal pillows or straps.
In my case it was real evident who/what was the culprit and a couple of days I was miserable but when the nasal mucosa forgave me things went back to normal and the tooth pain went away.
So twice this happened and I was so miserable that I haven't forgotten to refill the tank ever since then.
I need lots of moisture and I have to fill the tank each night because I use pretty much all of the water in a single night.

Re: Mask face farts
Pugsy, I will check the possibility the sinuses are the responsible of the problem. What is strange is it's only one tooth aching and always the same one and it is worst the morning. , as I told I had a root canal procedure because the dentist thought the nerve had a problem . I returned to the same dentist, she reopened and redo the treatment; still pain. After that two more dentist had taken Xrays and said the root canal job is good.
I can't say I have ever had a teeth pain because of a sinus problem, it's maybe only that I can't make the link between the two situations. For sure your hypothesis needs to be analyzed and I will do it. I'm maybe a little knots but I just get an idea. I will simulate a piggy nose with a piece of moleskin or else, I'll do that on day time for several hours and see if I can reproduce the problem .
