After quite a few delays and design changes, my cpap headboard is complete.

Boomer,

Great job taking the hose management feature and turning it into a visual design feature. Without the cpap no one would have a clue.

Sincerely,

That is a beautiful piece of work. Are you going to take special orders?

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words. I am very pleased with how it turned out.

Yes, my roommate and I made it in our workshop. The first real piece of furniture we made in there since the workshop was completed over 2 years ago.

As for special orders, we might consider that, but we need to get a few other small projects knocked out first.

It was pretty costly, just for the materials and special tools we realized we need after starting. The assembly is done entirely with dowels and wood glue. Well, almost, the backing, red oak plywood 1/8" thick, is attached with brads.

Completed cost just for materials and tools was ~ $500.00. Total time spent was about 4 or 5 weekends, but we did not work on it all day of those weekends. Might seem a little slow, but we did take some great pains with it, to get it the way we wanted it.

After a couple small projects, we're designing a glass and wood display case for my roommate to display his Navy memorabilia.

Thanks again for the kind words,

Boomer

Any chance you're ex-navy and served on a certain kind of sub yourself? (I'm recognizing the name)

The headboard is beautiful! I'm going to be building one myself soon...after I finish "The Bathroom Remodel From Hell" (started out as "I'm going to change the exhaust fan" and ended up gutted to the studs). We couldn't find wood trim we liked so I'm making all of it. We couldn't find maple that was as light as the cabinets so I'm making it all out of aspen and it's a near perfect match.

Anyways... the headboard I'll be building will have "floating" night tables on either side and the cpap machine will go on a shelf on the night table on my side of the bed. And the hose will run along the head end of the mattress since I'm having such good luck with my hose NOT doing that "up loop" thing. No rainout. Ever. Not sure if this is why but I'm not messing with success.

Anyways... I know what it takes to get a nice looking result and you obviously put a lot of thought into that headboard and it shows. It's really nice!

As a woodworker, kudos on the project.
I do not have the tools for such a project, but do have some questions and comments.

Most recommend the machine be lower than your head and this is not the case here- hope you have no rainout problems.
I would have been more creative in the place to drape the hose. Maybe a hole drilled in the back for the hose to come thru the headboard.
If you sleep alone, I would agree with the center placement, but of course this is easily changed. If you share your bed, then I would think the hole be on your sided of the bed.
What stain and finish did you use?
Attach to bed frame or wall?
Next project: Build a matching night stand that holds the machine out of view- maybe with electrical box built in?
I have often thought of a roll out drawer with vent holes in back that closes after it is on for quietness and appearance. The hose would go thru the back and in the hole in the headboard.
Just a thought.

tomjax, those are great ideas. I wish someone would make one. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I would buy one in a heartbeat. If you build it, they will come! Hey, maybe you could post the "plans" via drawing and someone out there with the right tools could make one.
