Holy smokes, I correlate with darn near every item on that list. I would think the issue would have been during prep but I wonder if that is why I had a significant issue 7-10 days post-procedure regardless of the "pooper soup" I was drinking.idamtnboy wrote:...at risk groups

I stocked up on probiotics to take for a few days afterward to return my gut flora to normal quickly.

Thanks for the clarification on the sodium phosphates. I must have misunderstood my gastro as I've never found her to be one to polish the truth to gain favor for her opinions or recommendations.
Reds and purples are colors to be avoided during a prep. Jello has always been okay as long as it was lime or lemon and not red or orange. Tea and bouillion were okay but altho my instruction sheet said colas were okay my one prep I drank cola there were some brown stringy strips of chyme on occasion that looked like strings of old dried blood. It was also a scope wherein there was too much time lapse between last dose of prep and the scope. The best results are when the prep is finished 4 to 6 hours maximum prior to insertion of the scope.

Re: Any recent Colonoscopy participants here?
I had my Colonoscopy and I had to bring in my APAP machine. This was basically just in case there was a decision to put me under and they would have charged me for a machine if I didn't have mine available.RoboLobo wrote:I am going to have my first colonoscopy on Friday, the day before I start treating my Apnea with a CPAP machine. I was wondering if anyone here has recently (fairly recently?) had a colonoscopy (and specifically a colonoscopy) and how they handled your Obstructive Sleep Apnea issue. Whilst I was walking the dog tonight I brewed up some ugly imagery of me dying on the outpatient operating table, and although ridiculous it got me thinking. I do plan on calling the hospital tomorrow (and mentioning it again on Friday), but I was wondering if anyone has a personal experience they would like to share with the group
Thanks!
I was wide awake during my colonoscopy and watched the whole procedure on a monitor. I thought it was kinda neat and the doc narrated my procedure and answered my questions as we went along. I was told me some people cannot deal with being awake for the procedure and that is why they want you to have your machine at the ready if they do decide to put you down. Same thing for my knee surgery, was awake for that and watched that on a monitor too. Now THAT was cool!
Re: Any recent Colonoscopy participants here?
I agree, NoseHose!!! It IS fascinating to watch. ESPECIALLY if your "doctor" will narrate what is going on, what we're seeing, etc.

Oh, totally!!!Slinky wrote:I agree, NoseHose!!! It IS fascinating to watch. ESPECIALLY if your "doctor" will narrate what is going on, what we're seeing, etc.
It reminded me of one of those Discovery Channel shows on Spelunking:
" as the team moves through the cavern, observing and recording any anomolies that are present"......
Re: Any recent Colonoscopy participants here?
And if you have the "right" kind of polyp, you can see the "tree(s)" (if you have more than one). There is one kind shaped like a Christmas tree type mushroom on a stem. And internal skin tag(s) can have some unusual shape(s).

So worth doing--even if you're 'out' and can't 'enjoy' the show.
Anything beats waiting for symptoms that mean it's probably too late.

Re: Any recent Colonoscopy participants here?
I just had one 2 weeks ago. I was not put out completely, they basically give you a valium and a rufie. The worst part is the colyte. The procedure itself is nothing. Also, if they know you have the apnea issues, they will give you O2 thru nasal pillows and the anesthesiologist will keep an eye on ya.
