Direct TV vs Fox61

Post by GumbyCT » Sun Apr 01, 2012 6:51 am

This may be local to CT only but, effective today, Direct TV is no longer broadcasting Fox 61 bc of some contract dispute between the two.

Fox 61 has some good programming incl. local news, wx, Fox Sports, and of course American Idol.

Back in the day, this would not be a big deal as you could pick it up off/over the air (OTA). With the digital age that has become more complicated and it seems their broadcast area is limited. I can't get 61 in my area, unfortunately.

Let us know if there is an interruption in your part of the country.

To answer your ? YES, it went down like that here in VA, but we have Antenna TV, so we still have FOX 61, all my friends with Direct TV lost it. I believe those here with COX Cable lost it too.

I have no idea what's going on in Buffalo since we get our tv the old fashioned way---for free through an antenna.

My opinion is this thread should have been marked OT since it's clearly off topic

DirecTV dropped Tribune Channel 17 in Philadelphia today. Contract ran out. I am sure a new contract is in the works. Phillies are on Channel 17.

I switched to FiOS TV last year so no longer using Directv.

Dish has the same problem--frequently.
The network and the stations are just fighting over who gets the bigger piece of pie.
No problems since we went back to antenna.
I've saved quite a piece of change; and don't really miss a thing.

A really good place to see what is going on with satellite and cable providers is Satellite Guys. It's like this forum but for satellite and cable news and rumors.
http://www.satelliteguys.us

They have a write up about the Tribune Vs Direct TV on the front page.

Slightly on topic, actually.
Many of us watch TV when we're not sleeping.

or while we are trying to fall asleep, especially since I am trying a Mirage Liberty and I can now see the TV without that forehead rest in the way

there's a broadcast group that owns fox affiliates in a limited amount of markets and they are always feuding with cable and sat companies over prices. they also own the fox station in the pensacola, mobile area and battled with my cable company, mediacom. if your fox channel hasn't gone down, it probably will and may be down for an extended time. we lost fox on our cable for several months last year before they came to terms.

This is a big deal for Hartford area subscribers... it blacks out 2 of the six networks...

Here in northeastern CT the affected channels are 20 (the CW) and 61 (Fox).

Well since
  • You shouldn't watch TV during or around bedtime because it's poor sleep hygiene;
  • You should only watch for a couple of hours per day max.
  • One of those hours has obviously been preassigned to O'Reilly;
  • With 500 other channels, if you can't find one other show the problem isn't with Fox61; however
  • Failure to comply with above will result in a permanent fix to the problem anyway (dead).

Hey it's not for me.... It is her that want to watch the sports. Then there is the reality stuff and of course American Idol.

afaik my job is to make sure the TV works and the batteries are fresh in the remote.

My thanks to the guy (or gal) who invented that thing (1st the TV then the remote) or my life would be, shall we say busy? This way I get at least some peace & quiet.

The nice thing about this whole arrangement is after she goes to sleep, I am allowed to watch whatever I want
