pulse oximeters
If anyone can recommend a good inexpensive fingertip pulse oximeter, I would like to hear about it. '
Thanks

A bit pricey, but I love this one--I think the capability to record the readings throughout the night is an imperative for CPAPer's.

Re: pulse oximeters
I bought this one but haven't found the time to check it out overnight yet.
Been doing the Bella Loops experiment instead.
I have it all ready to go and tested it with the software..works great.
Kevin sends great instructions with it.
If you aren't in a rush...let me get a few nights data and I most likely will be willing to part with it at a discount. I don't really think I am desating at night to cause my headaches and if I am not...I won't be needing it.. just another toy sitting around gathering dust.

I like the contec cms50f. I know there is a newer version but since mine works great I really haven't looked into it.

Thanks Pugsey, that sounds great, I'm in no hurry since right now we are trying to decide what to do about our PWD's knee. Greatful as always for your help.

I have the 50D+ the same one Pugsey has and really like it. Those that have rechargeable battery's from what I've read it's hard to find a replacement battery. I put a little piece of tape around it to make sure it stays on during the night.

Re: pulse oximeters
Does that also prevent loss of signal during the night?I put a little piece of tape around it to make sure it stays on during the night.
I have seen several "breaks" in both pulse and ox readings most nights. I have had the device fall off only twice in the month that I have had the Contec CMS-50E. These "breaks"often shortly precede apnea events, making me think that rolling over causes a less then optimal reading and the apnea event is breath holding while moving. I was wondering if any one could confirm or has at least made the same observation?

I have 1-5, average about 3, very brief losses of signal on my CMS 50E during the night even when taped on.BasementDwellingGeek wrote:I was wondering if any one could confirm or has at least made the same observation?

About the Oximeter, the problem is to synchronize its graph with ResScan, SleepyHead, etc.
About your idea of hanging the chinstrap on the mask headgear strap it does NOT make sense to me. Usually, I need to do a lot of fiddling with the tension of my Mirage Softgel nasal mask. The mfg says that there should be very little tension on this type of nasal mask's straps. The tension that I put on my regular chinstrap, if I would hang it on the mask it would pull the mask off my face.
I was thinking about another idea whereby the chinstrap would be supported from solid hangers (plastic) that by pass the mask straps (sort of a bridge over the mask straps). And, be tied over the head the usual way. Ask the maker of your shown chinstraps about it.
This one if you replace the nasal pillows with a triangular cushion like the Resmed's Mirage, I might buy it.

Who makes this mask ??????????

If I saw off the cushion from the frame and turn the air supply elbow upward it might fit the above mask.

Re: pulse oximeters
Although not in the league of MaxDarkside or JediMark, I am a bit of a geek and write my own software. Knowing that the data is all temporally related, it is usually easy to find an isolated minor disturbance in the different data sources. Here I have zoomed into such a place.

I've added controls to slide both PulseOx data and sleep data relative to the CPAP data to bring them inline. These 2 peaks can be shifted relative to each other. The SPO2/Heart Rate wave form as been shifted 43 seconds to bring them inline.

Then, scanning the rest of the waveforms, tweak that offset as required. The orange line (pink panel) shows a loss of signal. Zeo "thinks" I have just transitioned from light sleep to awake (the pink line changing to blue in the peach panel). The amplitude and pattern of the flow/breathing wave (green panel) seems well related to the SPO2 waveform with the 43 second shift. The CPAP machine labels this a Hypopnea.

I'm thinking that the extremes just after the loss of signal are related to the PulseOx resynchronizing.

Re: pulse oximeters
I have that happen. I disregard the apneas if I take deep breaths preceding them. I video recorded my self sleeping to confirm it. Still don't know what wakes me up to turn over though... about 12 times a night.BasementDwellingGeek wrote:Does that also prevent loss of signal during the night?I put a little piece of tape around it to make sure it stays on during the night.

When I slept with the finger tip oximeter, I wore a short sock over my hand. I cut a couple of finger holes in it and a slit so I could see the display. Worked for me.

CMS 50D+ : I just got this on the advice from everybody in this forum. It's only $70ish and its got overnight recording capability. Everyday I wake up...sync my SD card with sleepyhead...then upload my oximeter data into SPO2 review and see how the night went. It's pretty simple.

Rlamb, Does the 50D+ keep the time or do you have to reset the clock every night before you record?Rlamb wrote:CMS 50D+ : I just got this on the advice from everybody in this forum. Re: pulse oximeters
The 50D+ doesn't have a clock. You start it at the same time you start your xpap. In SleepyHead, you download the xpap data and then the oximeter. SleepyHead synchronizes them. I am not sure how exact it is because the 50D+ seems to take a few seconds to start recording.Lizistired wrote:Rlamb, Does the 50D+ keep the time or do you have to reset the clock every night before you record?Rlamb wrote:CMS 50D+ : I just got this on the advice from everybody in this forum.
