heated hose....malfunction (?)

Post by portiemom » Fri Mar 16, 2012 4:57 am

On two occasions, I masked up using my S9 Autoset with heated hose, on the proper machine setting and heard a bellow like sound. I checked my mask a few times to see what could be causing the sound, I thought perhaps the short hose was expanding and contracting somehow,,,, and woosh water, water everywhere, soaking my new pillow and head. Has anyone else had this happen, I thought the heated hose was suppose to eliminate this rainout. Did this happen maybe from the machine going on and off the few times I went to check it and created the gush of water? Puzzling

Your humidifier is set too high. Turn it back (down) half-way from where it is now. Lifting the hose so any water runs back into the humidifier helps too.

The humidifier setting can vary along with the season so it does take a bit of fiddling. I just leave mine on passover for most of the season now days.

A couple of ideas....

Did you fill your humidifier tank too full? Even a smidge above the Max line will give you lots of rainout.

Was the humidifier cover closed properly? I've had this happen - looks like it's closed, but not - makes loud noise.

Also, check your hose, specially at the ends, for splits. They are hard to spot, but the smallest one makes a lot of trouble!

cheers,
xena

Thanks everyone, I do have the hose hanging over head, the water chamber was a little below the max line, the lid was shut tight, and it's a 2 month old hose so I will check for splits. I will figure out how to lower the temp. that is probably what happened. Thanks for all the suggestions I do appreciate them all.

What I mean is when you hearing gurgling or suspect there IS water in the hose simply lift the hose to allow the water to run back into the water chamber.

I wasn't talking about hanging the hose overhead altho that can help on a long term basis as long as there is no place where the hose is lower than the machine.

On your unit are the water droplet and thermometer in the same square?

Sounds like your humidifier is set to MANUAL mode. There are two modes which you can select. AUTOMATIC mode allows you to select the temperature of the air reaching your mask and the machine will automatically heat the water in the reservoir so as to maintain 80% RH, avoiding the possibility of rainout. In MANUAL mode, you can set temperature of the air reaching the mask independently of that of the water in the reservoir. In that mode, it is very easy to generate rainout.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, dry hose last night, I did have the correct setting for the heated hose, problem must have been that 80 percent was too much, so I turned it down and eureka no rainout! Thanks for all your help folks, I am greatful for you all, and your wonderful spirit to help us with all our ?s.

IF you feel that is too dry you can turn it up but only go half way from where it is now to where it was when you got rainout. Does that make sense? If you follow me, you can do it in halves (up/down) until you reach your happy point.
