Water Distillers?? It's time! Your recomendations please

Yes, for xpap it's an occasional gallon, and I've been buying that at the grocery. For consuming @ 1-2 gallons a day, that's alot of water to haul home.

You might want to look at the resin based lab systems like this Millepore unit:

It is a little pricey at over $5,000.00 but you do not have to deal with descaling a boiler with acids and it plugs into a regular outlet and it does not heat up your house in the summer.

Edit: When I worked in a research lab, we had an electric still. It required maintenance with acid to keep it free of minerals and/or frequent draining to slow the build up. We also redistilled the house DW for more purity. That produced virtually no mineral build-up.

When we visited Ukraine, I drank only boiled water--no ill effects.
(I saw chickens roosting on the edge of the well)
My sister-in-law drank it un-boiled--and made liberal use of the T.P. we brought with us.

I used a reverse osmosis purifier for my salt water fish tanks. Doesn't reverse osmosis give you the same purity as distilled? The main disadvantage of reverse osmosis filtering is water waste. For every gallon of purified water, 10 gallons go down the drain. Not a good conservation appliance.

Don't most xPAP humidifiers say to use distilled OR purified water? What's their definition of purified? Would water from my PUR filter system work?

Depends on the R.O. system. Some are only 4 to one down the drain. I'd think that'd still be less expensive than the electricity for distillation and it's got to be faster. But I'm sure I'll be proven wrong.

RO water will work fine.

For CPAP however RO water is fine but not for my tummy. I can't drink RO water - I tend to react to whatever it was filtered with - possibly coconut based charcoal - I don't react immediately but give me a couple days of drinking charcoal filtered water I will want to barf on anything and everything present.

Some of the bottled water using bad filtering too and I get equally sick on it.

It's a lot cheaper, you could try it for very little money, and if it works, you're done!

I've been drinking Britta water for years, and I haven't had any issues. It tastes great too!

I had a fluoride treatment at the dentist on thursday and since have had severe aerophagia, stomach cramps, and some of those other GI issues that we probably don't want to discuss!
I had wondered why I always seemed to be in the doc's office at the same time of the year... Well DUH, I have my dental appt and get sucked into the fluoride treatment at the same time of the year.
So what is the best distiller, price considered??

I bought a countertop model from craigslist. Might be a Kenmore, but not certain. Works fine. I just make more when I need it. I'm very anti-schlepping of liquids, so not being tied to hitting Target or a regular grocery to get it monthly is a great benefit, to me.

At the time, I found they typically went for about $100 on ebay, and seemed quite popular. I was fortunate to find one on craigslist for $35.
