what do you weigh

Might be a rude question had a visit to doc today I mentioned that I has sleep apnea he said he hasn't ever seen someone my weight with it I weigh about 11 stone 10im not overweight is this normal or is my doctor a bit naive ?

I think your Doctor needs to learn a bit more about sleep apnea.
I have sleep apnea, and we're roughly the same weight. While there are overweight people with sleep apnea, being overweight certainly isn't the standard.

Looking back to when it really started I was an active 115 lb woman. Due to OSA I am now around 150-155 lb

Doctors like, most people fall into the bad habit of "stereotyping".

People like to think many things when it comes to Weight and Sleep Apnea. They like to think only "fat" people get it, which is about an accurate a way to think as only gay people get AIDS. There are plenty of "skinny" people with sleep apnea on these boards and there are plenty of "fat" people with it. Also there are "healthy" people or "fit" people with it and the "unheathly" with it.

Just like "Fit & Healthy" people are so shocked when they drop from a Heart Attack cause that only happens to fat lazy people, right? How can I have Heart Disease?

My life long friend who is a veteran recon scout, martial artist, works out, and eats way better then I do, was shocked when he had a Heart Attack at the age of 35 and had to have 3 blockages removed. He now monitors everything and has found out that being "Healthy" is no guarantee of anything.

I am 6'1" and 170 Lb's.

When I tell people I have sleep apnea, they say I thought only overweight people have that - tell them nope and can happen to any of us.

I'm 5'1" and somewhere between 105 and 110 pounds. And the most I've ever weighed was about 125-130 when I was 9 months pregnant.

My origional sleep Dr. had a different spin. She asked what my shirt size was? She explained that men with necks bigger than 16" often have apnea? I am 6 foot and weigh 185 lbs. And yes 17" neck. Said that men with larger necks have lot of tissue to block airway.

Of course at the time of my diagnosis I weighed 201 pounds.

Losing weight did not "cure" me. Alas. Although my husband is thrilled.

My husband is 6'2" and weighs about 180 lbs. His neck is 15 1/2" and he's definitely fit and active. He has severe apnea.

Why don't you do a poll and use BMI instead of weight? Although you may have a problem with a nonrandom sample of responders.
