I'm pretty sure this is just what happens with me. I'll occasionally wake myself up by mouth breathing but that's unusual. But just about every time I sleep with the machine on for more than a couple hours I get that ultra-dry feeling in the part of my tongue and mouth that's sealed off by keeping the tip of my tongue against the back of my teeth.elliejose wrote:Only problem is I sometimes form a vacuum with tongue behind top teeth and end up with dry mouth almost as bad as mouth breathing.
I'm curious, elliejose, where in SC? I'm in Columbia BTW.

These are my "grandchildren" -grand dog and cat. The black and white dog is a Borzoi or Russian Wolfhound. She is beautiful and a sweetie although a bit mischievous. Her name is Ruby but we usually call her Ru. She is not quite 2. The small one is an Abbysinnian name Moe. He is 12 and quite a gent. He had to have his tail removed a couple of years ago but gets along quite well without it. If you are interested you can see more photos of them on flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/myriorama/. Moe does not show up very well on my avatar. But thanks for asking

I hope you all have better success with preventing mouth air leaks than I did. Even with the entire front of my tongue against the back of my teeth, I can still have air escape easily from around the sides of tongue/teeth. You may still be having treatment air blowing out. That would cause dryness the same as if you were mouth breathing.Brent Hutto wrote:But just about every time I sleep with the machine on for more than a couple hours I get that ultra-dry feeling in the part of my tongue and mouth that's sealed off by keeping the tip of my tongue against the back of my teeth.
In my case, dry mouth will always be accompanied by leak indications on the software. And it never happens when I tape - which I don't do nightly.
I've been jolted awake by air pouring out of my mouth - around my tongue - with my tongue dry and firmly stuck to the top of my mouth - very unpleasant.
Based on my own experience - admittedly with low pressure - I would say a dry mouth indicates a mouth leak.

chinstraps
I agree the Tiara chinstraps work the best.

Re: Chinstraps
1) I tried the blue one with the oval hole in the middle, and that didn't work because the air comes poofin' right through my lips.Yoga wrote:What chinstraps have you used that worked and which ones did not work?
2) I tried the Veronique, the 3" wide, very stiff chin strap that felt like I had a very wide belt around my head HATED it.
Tried tape...ick. Between the hot sweaty feeling under it, and the glue taste...well, I quit that too.
The only thing that's worked for me is a 4" wide ace bandage sewn to fit fairly tightly around my head. The NON-stick to itself stuff. Light and comfortable, but tight enough to fit over my lips, keeping my mouth closed most of the time

Please give tips!
rooster wrote:Chinstraps did not work for me. With a chinstrap and mouth closed I would get frequent leaks out of the corner of my lips.
I now tape my lips shut with 3m Micropore 2-inch tape. This works like a charm all night long and is not uncomfortable. If you are interested I can give you some tips.
Good morning rooster! Wiling to give the tape a chance - what are your tips?
I do have VERY fair skin due to my red hair - hence the "red" in sleepy. Also, will pulling this tape off every morning prevent me from having to think about having my upper lip "waxed"?
The other reason I have hesitated is that I get a sip of water if I get up at night to go to the potty.
