The older PR System One machines did not have the back light feature.
What is the manufacture date of your machine? Is it the same machine that you started with in 2010? If so I don't think the back light feature became available until sometime in early 2011.

It's a new one, I just got it today, it has a backlight. When the cpap is off and you turn the knob the light will come on for a short time and then goes off.

Is there not away to turn the backlight on the LCD panel on when the cpap is running, if you want to see what the pressure is?

No way that I could figure out.
I have one with the backlight and it comes on when I turn the knob when machine is not blowing but once the blower engages turning the knob kicks in to adjust the humidifier and doesn't do anything else.
The pressure shows up, of course, but you would need external light (flashlight or lamp) to be able to see what the pressure is.

That' dumb, why did they even put a light on it if you can't turn it on when you need it?

Most of the CPAP manufacturers are clueless about users who manage their own therapy. I imagine that it didn't occur to them that anyone would want to read the pressure while the machine was running.

Be glad the light does go off, though, the previous generation of Respironics machines had bright blue LEDs which served no purpose other than to show the machine was on and where the buttons were -- so bright that many people couldn't sleep unless they covered the buttons. Make that clueless about users in general.

Worse than just having crappy backlight logic, they also used a crappy 1980's quality LCD display that is so bad it's really difficult to read with a flashlight.
