CPAP and camping

Post by jacko » Fri Mar 02, 2012 7:26 pm

G'day , Guys
I have been using CPAP for about 6 years , I do a lot of 4x4ing and camping and use a Puritan Bennett GoodKnight 420E , 12 volt machine
If you have seen my other post you will know it has a problem , so I really need a new one

Are there any campers here that use a 12 volt machine , I live in Australia in the Bush , so will probably have to mail order a Machine , so my question is what is the latest and greatest machines on the market that I could research

I also do a lot of Motorcycle touring so a smaller machine would be good , I don't need a Humidifier

Regards Jacko

I like my Philips Respironics machine. I have two of them one is just for camping where I need to run off of a battery. these machines are both outdated now but are still going strong. I picked up my second machine just for camping off of a battery and a back up for the one that stays home. These macines are 12 volt and use very little power.

Hi jacko

I am also trying to find a small/lightweight battery CPAP - and am trying to get opinions on Somnetics (brand) Transcend II (Model). It seems to cost $450 US with postage between $50 and $80 to Australia. It seems it should last for four to five 8 hour nights on a 15 amp hour battery (I have 3 x 15 amp and 3 x 7 amp hour batteries). I am having trouble getting this confirmed. As well as camping/caravanning, we go bushwalking and kayaking and have to carry the machine and batteries, so weight (of machine & batteries) in our backpacks and sleep-time hours are critical (My Resmed S8 and 2 x 15 amp hour batteries last 3 nights and weighs 10 kg all up). Somnetics said they are hoping to get approval to sell them here in Australia within a month, but I asked a supplier here and they said they didn't have TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) approval as yet. It will have an international warranty. I think I am pretty well on the verge of going ahead and buying it, as I need it before Easter for a kayak trip.
I have only found one other person in this forum who seems to use this machine - I would love to hear from more.

I hope this helps. Please let me know how you go as well?
