One question - where are you napping? Are you in bed in the same position you sleep in at night or in a different place or position? The reason I ask is because I have similar symptoms though I am not on any SSRIs or medications that should cause them but I am pretty certain mine were from the position of my head in the chair where I sometimes nap. The back of the chair put some pressure right on the base of my skull/upper neck in such a way that caused "brain zaps", sleep paralysis and numbness in my hands. I mentioned this to a physical therapist friend who said hard pressure on just the right spot could do that. Needless to say, I've quit dozing in that chair and no longer have those problems.

My naps take place in my bed in the same position. There are times I'll tell myself 'just rest' and then I start to fall asleep. My mouth gets dry (I think I'm addicted to the humidifier) and I put on the CPAP. Other times even if I don't know if I will actually sleep or not I'll start with the CPAP on anyways.
I didn't know about our bodies handling/processing drugs differently. I am currently on a taper (Getting off the benzos before the SSRI's and all under a docs supervision).
As for caffeine, I don't drink it. My fluids are 90 percent water and 10 percent milk. There are occasions when I get a sweet tooth that I'll buy myself a caffeine free coke but that's about it.
As for fish being expensive...well, it's not the only expensive thing in Japan. Japan is one of the most expensive places in the world. A little off-topic but the Nikon cameras coming out are almost 2,000 USD more expensive in Japan that in the U.S (So, 5,999 USD if you buy it in Japan and a 8,000 USD in Japan...why, I don't know). Chicken is the cheapest of the meats you can buy. I get my dietary fats from avocados mostly and I do take fish oil supplements.
Bentos can vary from being very healthy to very unhealthy. The lunch boxes made by mom's around Japan are usually very healthy, with small portions of rice compared to the egg, fish, veggies. But buying a lunch box at a local vendor (Remember, this is fast-food Japanese style) they go heavy on the rice because it's the 'filler' for the customer. Kind of like french fries to a hamburger. They can be made healthy but most are not. Lots of deep-fried foods or high calorie/low nutritional value kind of food. There are healthy parts to it, but not enough.

I mentioned caffeine because almost everyone is familiar with it and its effects. All pop is bad for you and diet is worse. The sugar is the least of your worries with pop. For your sweet tooth almost anything else sweet is better then pop.synonymous wrote:

Eggs are good, (the cholesterol myth has been debunked) butter, olive oil, peanut oil, coconut oil are all good oils. Deep fried is generally not good because of the temperatures the oils are heated too, not because of the fat involved.

I understand that regular soda pop is bad, the sugar. I don't understand how diet soda is worse. There haven't been any peer-reviewed studies that show any ill effects of aspartame. Bodybuilders use it to avoid sugar (That's what I use it for). I use to drink diet/caffeine free coke all the time with no ill effects. It kept me away from sugar. Blood tests during those times showed no problems with blood sugar or anything else. However, my wife seems to think anything 'not organic' is bad and so I gave up my diet sodas. During my consultation with my doctor he actually suggested I avoid sugars (Which I already do) with diet soda. His exact words were "If it's a zero calorie drink, no problem.' Now, this doctor isn't someone I really have a lot of faith in but I don't doubt diet is bad, in 'moderation'.
I get most of my fats from avocados and olive/sesame see oils. Eggs are great. Butter would be nice if it were cheaper in Japan. Deep fried food is everywhere here but not part of my diet.
