Mask Issues?

Post by stinky » Tue Feb 28, 2012 12:10 pm

First, I would like to say Hi to everyone and that this will be my 1st post on this site. I've been using my S9 on average of about 5.5 to 6 hrs. every night for the last 2 months and have been having issues with my full Mirage Quattro mask not getting a good seal on my face. I have done everything my provider has advised me to do, but nothing has worked. Can anyone recommend a solution this problem such as a mask that seems to work well with this device...

Have you tried the mask liners available, reviewed the instructions on fitting the mask? Over tightening is a common problem. This may not be the mask for you.

In my quest to find the right mask for me, I tried the Quattro and had the same issue--it just didn't seem to fit me. Finally settled on another mask (Ultra Mirage FFM).

Hi,

The UN high commissioner on refugees classifies the Quattro as a torture device. The best solution might be to find a different mask. Your DME should have a large selection to pick from. I'd look for the smallest and lightest mask you can find that works for you. If you are one of the dreaded "mouth breathers", try a chin strap (the Ruby available from cpap.com is miles better than any others that I have tried), or if you are more adventuresome, you might want to try taping. That opens up the possibilities of using a nasal mask or nasal pillows (like the Swift LT or FX). If you really do want mouth coverage, try out a hybrid mask.

Love that, John! Indeed, "torture deice" describes my experience with the Quattro! But, I know some/many love it. To each his/her own when it comes to selecting the "right" mask!

OMG...I've been using that mask for almost 4 wks now and I thought it was me. I wake up and have to fix the mask at least 4-6 times a nite. The liner comes undone, it doesn't seal right. makes noises all nite and drives hubby nuts. I will call and see if I can get another type of mask. yes, I do need a full one. any suggestions.

It's really a matter of personal choice/fit/comfort when it comes to the "best" mask, Mary. I use/love my Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask. Good luck in your mask quest! We've all been there (I have a drawer full of masks I tried during my first 6 months with APAP).
