"Rebound" Sleepiness?

Post by GrantT » Thu Feb 23, 2012 10:06 am

Anyone experience any sort of rebound exhaustion/tiredness after a couple weeks of APAP usage?

The first 10 days or so seemed to be great, but now I am noticing I feel more tired (thought still better than off therapy). AHI less than 5 and no real change in patterns/disturbances etc.

Yes.
I sort of 'crashed' for a couple days.
Either a coincidence or I needed to get weaned off my own adrenaline.
Energy came back in a few days--eventually way exceeding any I had for years before.

Yes, I've been on new CPAP almost 3 weeks at my new presssure and new machine. The first two weeks I felt alive. I got up in the morning refreshed and totally awake. All my friends commented on how much better I looked (not dragging and tired, and no dark circles under my eyes). No dozing in church, watching TV, or on the computer. But this week I've noticed daytime sleepiness (no where near what it was before) but have taken a nap during the day several times. It has been a little bit harder to get up in the morning and I don't feel quite as peppy.

From previous experience, this too will pass. I think "rebound" is a good word to describe it.

My doc called it a "sleep debt" that had to be repaid and often comes due a few weeks after we've started therapy. It can be disconcerting after a week or two of feeling better. If possible I would let my body get the good sleep it craves. Even though perhaps we were sleeping well before 'CPAP it may have not been restorative sleep.
