My RemStar Auto M C-Flex APAP died. I found the provider manual for it and tried to get into the setup, but it just shows "service required" and flashes the priority repair blink code. The blower does not turn on.
I got this in 2007. I read that the earlier model were not designed to prevent water from the humidifier getting into the machine if tipped over. That's what happened to mine.
i am looking into getting a new APAP, but I would like this one as a spare if it can be economically fixed.
i have been a do it your-selfer with all kinds of electronic-mechanical equipment.
When water from the humidifier gets into the machine, what does it normally damage? Does it short out a circuit board, or what?
Where does one get replacement parts? Are they even still available for a machine this old? Are they only from RemStar? Is the cost of parts reasonable od they want the equivalent of a new machine?

Re: DIY RemStar Auto M C-Flex Repair
I wouldn't say that is true. Most of them try to keep water from going back into the machine with varying degrees of success. The new Philips Respironics PRS1 machines probably have the best design among the current machines to keep humidifier water from getting back into the machine. They are much better than the M series in terms of this, but you're still risking damage if you tip the machine over with water in the tank.TANSTAF1 wrote:I got this in 2007. These guys fix cpap machines.

There is a link to their website in their signature.
They might be able to help you with your DIY quest but I suspect you could buy a used M series machine cheaper than you can fix the broken one. First suspect with a history of water damage would be the computer electronics board.
M Series machines are easily found on craigslist with some careful shopping. Especially in the big city areas.

Try the rice bag trick. Put the machine in a pillowcase and seal it tight to keep the rice out. Stick that inside a plastic bag with some uncooked rice. Seal that up tight. It helps get the last traces of water out of the machine. Leave it for a few days.
Getting it completely dry is the first step. You might still have shorts or other damage. It might even be unsafe to operate, but if you're going to attempt to repair it, getting dry is a good start.

See viewtopic/t52468/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=35 ... es#p304039 for tips on how to get the device apart. The main thing is to get the innards dried out. It will dry out much faster if it is opened. If it's just water on a circuit board, drying it out should fix the problem (remember that circuit boards are cleaned with water on the production line). If water has gotten into the motor or the pressure or flow sensors, that might be another story. Good luck!
