Won him over
Won him over
My husband was always horrified by the idea of sleeping with cpap, especially after seeing me with my ASV. Refused to even think about a sleep study until his anesthesiologist from the November surgery and then his cardiologist absolutely inisisted he have it done.
Last night was his 5th on apap and he can't believe how much better he feels.

Re: Won him over
Great news... I said before... I wish my wife would take a sleep study. If you think about it... to some degree... we were all like your husband. We had to be "won-over". All our stories are different, but we had to be convinced to take the test (most of us...two of em'), get the equipment, find a mask that is comfortable, doesn't leak, wear it all night (dang conclaption... ), maintain and clean, etc.... But as we all know... it's all worth it to feel refreshed after sleeping and ready to take the day on.

Re: Won him over
I can't tell how many times I went to sleep (?) at night, afraid I'd wake up a widow.
I had to go first, but he was about 7 months behind me.

In four short nights of using it, my machine (an ASV) went from being a nightmare I could not even imagine, to being my most prized physical possession. Friday (First Night) - AHI = .45 Saturday - AHI =.41 Sunday - AHI = 0.0 Monday = 0.0 I still don't like it, but LOVE how I am already feeling.

Ain't it great!!! You have to put up with a lot to get settled in... but man... the pay-back is out of this world! I loved my machine so much, I started worring about what I would do if the machine broke down. That's when I got a back up so I wouldn't be without therapy while my "main-machine" was being worked on or replaced.Buggstzer wrote:In four short nights of using it, my machine (an ASV) went from being a nightmare I could not even imagine, to being my most prized physical possession. Congratulations! I am trying to get my husband "won over" he snores terribly, and he jumps when he needs a breath a times. To make matters worse he loves to sleep on his back. This is going to be a long battle as he is not at all receptive. I'm going to be relentless in my pursuit to get him treated!

Re: Won him over
Congrats to you!
I have been on cpap/ASV for 14 months with tremendous results. I decided to take a laid-back approach with my DH to see if he would make a move but they just has not happened. He doesn't snore much now, although he used to but maybe I am just sleeping more soundly now. He does have apenic events which scare him silly when he falls asleep in his recliner but that has not motivated him. He is willing to have me check his spo2 with my oximeter so I will give that a go.
So thanks for your post! It has inspired me to be a little more forceful with him.
Continued good luck to you two!

Ask him to pick what style of adult diapers he wants you use on him after his stroke.

I sleep on my back 90% of the time. My numbers show no difference between back and side.portiemom wrote:To make matters worse he loves to sleep on his back.
For years I slept on my stomach until back trouble/surgery moved me onto my back. My wife's elbow moved my snoring self to the side for thirty years. Now with CPAP treatment, which she loves, I am onto my back again.
Bottom line, not everyone has to avoid sleeping on their back with CPAP treatment. Earl

Re: Won him over
There are even a few tummy sleepers with cpap.
Any position is possible with ingenuity.
Cpap is like a bionic sleeping device!
It's awesome!
