Seeking Tweaking Advice-ResScan

Post by NateS » Wed Feb 08, 2012 11:04 pm

Attention software mavens:

Could you please take a look at this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=74149&p=681145#p681145

Would any of you be willing to help me out by providing the steps necessary for me to tweak an extra copy of ResScan to see whether it would allow me to see whether my ResMed S9 VPAP Adapt distinguishes between Obstructive vs Central Apneas and, if so to flag and display them separately in ResScan?

This would be my first effort in using foxe242 and of course I would only work on a copy of the program.

Thanks to anyone for their interest and advice.

Best regards, Nate

(On the other hand, if the data is there, why wouldn't SleepyHead be picking it up off the sd card without tweaking?)

Before we do that, do this first, please. Look at the directory on your SD card and list the names of all the files, and sizes, that are on it. Also, is there some place you can upload a copy of the str.edf file so I can download it and look at it? There's no value in mucking with the XML file if the data isn't in the files on the SD card. I really don't think it is or Resmed would have listed it in that data management guide, which is meant for clinicians, not us incompetent and clueless user peons.

Excellent point. Here is a what I hope to be a complete directory of the sd disk. I will find someplace to upload the str.edf file for you.

Thanks very much for your interest.

Here are what are called the signals in the summary file. I won't explain them all as I'm sure you can decipher most, if not all, of them. The last four are the apnea signals. As you can see there is no CA and OA in the list. That means your ASV is not deciphering and recording CAs and OAs separately but just lumping them together in the AI number. The UAI number would be for unknown cause apneas.

So unfortunately, editing the XML file will do not good as there's no way to retrieve numbers that don't exist. Just for a double check upload one of the EVE.edf files also. They're small. That's the individual mask session file that has the flags for all the events. Even if there are no events to be flagged for a particular session the file will have a header and signal portion that defines what data values are recorded. I don't expect to find an OA and CA entry in it but let's make sure.

I have no idea what all those files are that are in the "page 8" part of your list, except the STR ones. None of them exist in the files generated by the S9 Autoset or Elite APAPs. The PLD, EVE, BRP, and SAD files are probably the same as for the Autoset and Elite.

New to all this cpap data stuff, but both resscan and sleepyhead record and show each separate for me.... is the auto really that much more difficult being that it's supposed to be the better choice from what I understand

This topic is dealing with the S9 VPAP Adapt, a whole different machine from the Elite and Autoset, both in operation and price, something like $7000 to $8000 for the Adapt vs. ~$800 for the others. The Autoset is pretty much the same as the Elite, except for its auto adjusting feature.

Many thanks for all your interest and efforts!

It seems so strange that a machine which I understand to be specifically designed to treat central apneas does not record and report individual events as being either centrals or obstructives. Seems like an odd design decision.

The files on page 8 are inside a folder called: "SETTINGS"

I am sending you a new pm with a link to a recent EVE.edf as you suggested.

Best regards and with much appreciation,

Nate

Just as I thought. Your machine lumps OA and CA events together. Here's the data list from your file.

Onset Duration Annotation

0 0 Recording starts
4045 16 Apnea
7858 14 Hypopnea
10299 19 Apnea
10328 15 Apnea
10396 11 Apnea
10431 11 Apnea
15116 19 Apnea
15326 15 Apnea
15385 25 Hypopnea
17741 12 Hypopnea
21603 10 Hypopnea
21838 10 Hypopnea
23822 23 Hypopnea

Compare that to the data from one of my Autoset EVE files.

Onset Duration Annotation
0 0 Recording starts
6012 11 Obstructive apnea
11979 14 Central apnea
12542 10 Obstructive apnea
18743 15 Central apnea
21260 11 Central apnea
24461 12 Central apnea
25421 12 Central apnea
25501 14 Central apnea
25530 10 Central apnea
25736 10 Central apnea

See the difference? The Adapt lists "Apnea" where the Autoset lists "Obstructive Apnea" and "Central Apnea".

Hi idamtnboy,

That was very impressive and informative!!

Next Wednesday I have an appointment with my sleep Doc to discuss the possibility of getting a ResMed S9 VPAP Adapt or a Respironics System One BiPAP autoSV.

Prior to reading this thread, I think I would have been more interested in the VPAP. However, obviously, my concern is CAs and if VPAP doesn't identify them, maybe I should take a closer look at the autoSV.

QUESTION:

Do you, or anyone else out there, know if the System One BiPAP SV records CAs?

Thanks!

To quote Sargent Schultz, "I know nothing, I know nothing!"

I don't know a bloomin' thing about the other machines' data systems.

Amazing!

Any thoughts you might have as to why an expensive machine made to treat Central Apnea doesn't bother to distinguish between Centrals and Obstructives???

http://www.healthcare.philips.com/asset ... cSheet.pdf

According to the machine information at above link the PR S1 BiPap AutoSV Advanced...does gather CA.

All I could find for the AVAPS and S/T models is this brochure but it mentions access to clear airway data.
http://bipapst.respironics.com/PDF/BiPAP_Brochure.pdf

I had a link that showed the data available on all the machines but it is dead now and of course I wasn't smart enough to make a copy. Darn it. I get a message that it has been moved..but I have no idea where.

I am thinking the the new PR S1 high end line of ASV machines all gather Clear Airway data. I will continue to look for that spec sheet that had everything listed in a nice little package.

Do you think it's actually hiding all clear-airway apneas, or do you suppose all apneas have been lumped together in one category, emulating what it might look like on the S8?
