ResMed Mask Questions

Post by WindLaker » Fri Feb 10, 2012 11:55 am

I've been using the ResMed Mirage since early 2008. Works good, very few leaks, but it's very uncomfortable. Dents on the forehead, red mark across the bridge of the nose, the whole thing.

Then I tried another ResMed mask, which right now the name escapes me (Freedom, maybe?). Covered the mouth only, used nasal pillows. I really liked the lightness of it, but I woke up with it leaking a LOT.

About 2 weeks ago, I switched to the ResMed FX. I really like it a lot. Comfortable, light weight. Two problems however....

1. My mouth is opening up. My wife wakes up easily, and this triggers it. One night she got up and slept in the guest room.
2. After about 4-5 hours, the mask is leaking. The cushion seems to just slip off my face.

Before bed, I wash my face with Cetaphil soap. I then clean my mask with a CPAP wipe. After this, the mask sticks to my face like it is glued to my face. After the 4-5 hours, I no longer have a good seal.

Any ideas?

I don't want to go back to the Mirage, but I may be forced to... BY MY WIFE!

Thanks in advance.

Some people report that Lanisnoh HPA Lanolin cream on the nostrils will help with leaks.

You need to fix the mouth leaks. Try a chin strap. Some people report that pressing their tongue against the roof of their mouth at bedtime and keeping it there helps them stay closed in their sleep.

Can you keep a face wipe and a mask wipe at the bedside and use them when you have a leak? My husband has a problem with oily skin and would probably get oily in 4-5 hours. Thanks for brining up this problem. Now we can think of a solution for him, too

Which mirage do you have? Pretty much every Resmed mask is the Mirage _____. I assume you meant the mirage quattro (full face) as you then go on to describe the liberty (there is no freedom).

I really like nasal masks like the mirage soft gel or Mirage FX, if you haven't tried one I'd recommend it.

For the mouth breathing you probably need to get a chin strap or make/buy a mouth piece (you can find instructions on this site).

Yes, the full face is the Quattro.

Yes, it was the Liberty I tried. Woke up with LOTS of leaks.

I've been using a chinstrap the last 2 nights. It is keeping me quiet, but the mask is still loosening up after 4-5 hours.
