Re: Quattro Poll (Which is Best)
If it fit; I would have stayed with the original quattro.
The forehead brace has so many positions; and the headgear clips are so nice.
The silicone may be flimsy, but it's so soft--just another trade-off.
Too bad they just don't make my size/shape.

Re: Quattro Poll (Which is Best)
I received the Mirage Quattro mask in the mail today so will give it a trial tonight. I hooked it up for a few minutes and it seemed pretty comfortable and I didn't feel or hear any leaks. The forehead support bar isn't really all that noticeable when you're wearing the mask, but I did notice when I took the mask off after only a few minutes that I had an imprint on my forehead from the forehead pads. Maybe I need to back the dial down a bit.
I have a Liberty hybrid mask too that I used for awhile before switching to the Quattro FX. I liked the Liberty mask because of the small footprint since the hard mask portion only goes over your mouth, but I have more inconsistent results with that mask. Some nights it would work really well with very little leak and other nights I'd have a hard time getting the nasal pillows to stay sealed in my nose. The pillows would move and lose their seal and I'd get a whistling sound.

Maybe I should have ask "Which was your first mask" because it seems that alot of peeps stick with what they know. I was given a Quattro first and stuck with it for 2 years, now it seems that all other masks come a poor second. Unless I get a chance to try all the mask at some mask show I shant be changing again no matter what the reviews are.Sheriff Buford wrote:I tried both masks at the DME a few years back, but they leaked like there was no tomorrow. Re: Quattro Poll (Which is Best)
One night with the Mirage Quattro versus about 3 months with the Quattro FX. Apparently my face structure works with Resmed products as I get very low leak rates (95% scores in the single digits) with both of these masks. Watched a number of videos and read a Taming the Quattro blog and found it very easy to fit the Mirage Quattro with no discernable leaks. However, with the Mirage Quattro, I think I'll need some time to determine what the best position for the forehead support and upper strap tension is. I started out the night with the forehead support retracted so that it was barely touching my forehead but woke up during the night with some soreness on the bridge of my nose from too much pressure there. So, I cranked the forehead support position out which relieved the pressure on the bridge of my nose, but when I woke up and unmasked, it took probably an hour for the support marks on my forehead to go away. A positive for the Mirage Quattro is that I do believe it is a bit more stable if you are a side sleeper. However, that really hasn't been a problem for me with the Quattro FX. One thing in favor of the FX is that it has less parts to disassemble for cleaning and reassembly. After one night though, I 'd probably still say I prefer the FX since I can get a good seal with both masks.
Gazhacks, I don't know if they'll ship to Scotland, but the CPAP Library offers a mask trial program where you can get a one week free trial of a mask for only the cost of shipping which is $14 round trip in the US. I used the program when I switched from the Liberty to the Quattro FX and it was a good way to do an in home test of a mask with very little cost involved.
UPDATE: Scratch that, I just looked at their site and the CPAP Library mask trial program is only open to US residents...

Re: Quattro Poll (Which is Best)
Well I asked to try the fx and my clinic said no probs and gave me the mask. Like most I lasted a week before I was reaching for my normal quattro. I guess Ive just got use to this mask and all others will now have to compete.

Re: Quattro Poll (Which is Best)
Second night with the Mirage Quattro didn't go as well as the first. I got the top velcro straps and the forehead support adjusted so that I didn't get an imprint on my forehead, but then the top portion of the cushion put too much pressure on the bridge of my nose. I actually took it off after about an hour and went back to the Quattro FX. This morning while washing both masks, I compared the two face cushions side by side and I noticed that the top of the Mirage Quattro cushion is a little narrower than the one on the FX and I think the firmer inner layer of the silicone may be applying more pressure to the bridge of my nose than the Quattro FX which has a little more space between the firm inner layer. But when I looked at my leak data this morning, my leak rates were a bit higher with the FX than the Mirage Quattro.

Yes I agree, you never forget and there's always a certain fondness for your "first" Mask..Gazhacks wrote: Maybe I should have ask "Which was your first mask" because it seems that alot of peeps stick with what they know. Actually the Quattro never left any forehead marks for me, but did leave a red mark on the bridge of the nose. Fixed that by just backing out the adjustment screw slightly.

I had a problem with marks on my nose for a few weeks then it went and dont get marks at all now. The Quattro is very forgiving once you get use to itKody wrote:Yes I agree, you never forget and there's always a certain fondness for your "first" Mask..Gazhacks wrote: Maybe I should have ask "Which was your first mask" because it seems that alot of peeps stick with what they know. I've used the Mirage Quattro for about three years, and the QFX for about a year.
I like both masks but for best therapy I prefer the QFX.
OTOH, the Mirage Quattro is probably a bit more comfortable, especially when used with a Padacheek mask liner.
Of course individual results may vary....

Re: Quattro Poll (Which is Best)
I completed my first week on bipap on Wednesday. My first mask is the Quattro FX. I have been plagued with leaks despite my best efforts to adjust. Last night my large leak reading was 21%. That can't be good. I am leakless when I go to bed, but I wake up a few hours later with "large leaks". I think the noise from the leaks is waking me up. The bipap machine itself is amazingly quiet. Fortuitously, my DME called this morning to see how I was doing. I will be visiting the DME monday to see if we can find something that works better.
Re: Quattro Poll (Which is Best)
I have them both. I think they're both junk. Really disappointed in the FX. When I had it fitted, it felt great and I couldn't wait to use it. That night approximately six or eight times, it would start leaking all over the place. It sounded like a whoopee cushion on steroids. I kept tightening the straps each time, but then it was too tight and uncomfortable to wear. I wrote my buddy and told him about my experience, and he told me he had the same experience with his Quattro and Quattro FX and just pitched them. He told me to get the Fisher and Paykel Forma. He said there are no leaks and it actually fits under your chin and will keep your mouth closed.
That's my two cents,
Ernie

Same here I tried the Quattro FX first but I was struggling with leak problems all night long. Then switched to the Mirage Quattro and bingo! No leaking problems whatsoever regardless of my position on the pillow and after my many tossing and turning in the bed.
The Mirage Quattro is the winner for me.

Re: Quattro Poll (Which is Best)
My first mask was the Mirage Quattro. It fit a little large but was able to keep leaks to a minimum. After a week my nose was so sore and raw I had a difficult time even wearing my glasses. At that point, I ordered a nasal pillow mask which has been a gift from the gods. Fast forward to allergy season and resuming the hunt for a full face mask I could wear, and picked up the FX. It proved to be much more comfortable on my nose but if it was properly adjusted when I went to bed, it ended up pretty leaky, necessitating tightening of the lower straps to get it under control. Which, of course, left red marks on my face. I've decided to keep the FX as the need to wear it will only be occasional and I can live with the consequences. For the most part though, I will stick with the nasal pillow mask.
