CareCentrix had the AUDACITY to..........
CareCentrix (3rd party billing company that somehow fits in between Cigna and Apria) ( Cigna is my insurance provider, Crapria is my DME........) had the AUDACITY to call me today DEMANDING payment for my supplies that I received in March. I politely told her that I just got the bill on Monday and that if they were a little better about invoicing I would be a little better about paying. She still insisted on me making an immediate payment over the phone. I told her that I don't pay ANYTHING like this until I have had a chance to compare their invoice with my insurance EOB's and make sure they BOTH match what I actually received! I will get around to it. Leave me alone and get your act together.......... I don't tolerate bully tactics from idiots.
Ok... I feel better now! LOL

Re: CareCentrix had the AUDACITY to..........
My wife and I got a letter from a collection agency about 2 months ago for a bill from our hospital regarding our daughter. We called the collection agency to get some more info on the bill and then began looking through all our bills to see if we even had this bill. I could not find it anywhere and we keep detailed files of all of our financial papers. We called the hospital and spoke with them....they ended up laughing about it and said...oh that's our mistake...we never billed you...then they wanted us to pay it right then over the phone...and we said NO! They ended up taking care of the collection agency for us but it then took them another 2 months to get the bill to us! Ahhhh the medical field!

Yep and I usually tell them MY COMPUTER says I don't owe and everybody knows the computer is never wrong so they need to have their computer contact my computer and work it out..
Usually after a short silence they ask how to do that and I tell them mail it to COMPUTER at my home address and hang up. Surprisingly it actually usually works in a lot of cases.... .

Fireman, I well know your frustration. DME is Apria, insurance is Cigna...and CareCentrix is the third party...
I not only get my Bipap supplies from Apria...but I am also on oxygen 24/7 and have monthly charges for my concentrator and home-fill system.
I truly think they think I'm so oxygen-deprived that they can double-bill me and send me three bills in the course of the month and threaten to send my bills to a collection agency only two weeks after I receive them.
I was sick with bronchitis and pneumonia for a month-and-a-half and had to spend HOURS on the phone with these idiots because they can't even take payments properly. They told me my crediti card was declined and I KNEW that was WRONG...so called credit card company and my account had never even been charged. They probably got the number wrong or who knows what they did. Yeah, I'm sitting on the phone with these people...for over two hours...while I have a fever of 104 and I'm hacking out my lungs. I did that because they had been leaving me phone messages threatening me with collection agencies.
I'm so confused about what I actually owe them, now. It's also Apria's fault as they send in the bills months late and not in order. It's just one HUGE mess.
The stress is actually making me sicker.

I feel your pain fireman! My DME is Apria. They actually called me up before I even went over to pickup my machine, pick out a mask to try and get trained. They were demanding payment over the phone right then. My wife told them no way and hung up the phone on them. They called up a number of time over the next couple of weeks and tried the same thing. We told them to send a bill and we'd pay it. We finally got a bill this last week. I was shocked at the bill they sent my insurance. I think the machine was $3500 and my insurance allowed $850. I think the total bill was like $5,000. Insurance allowed about $1,200 and I paid $200. No wonder health care costs so much.
Re: CareCentrix had the AUDACITY to..........
Also beware -- If I understand correctly from someone close to me who uses them and has a percentage based co-pay -- Apria has the practice of demanding payment of the co-pay prior to billing insurance -- before they "know" what the allowed amount should be (and hence what the actual co-pay should be). So what they do is demand the co-pay percentage on the total billed amount -- not the insurance allowed amount.
They then never ever volunteer to make refunds and are very reluctant to make refunds even when asked.

Re: CareCentrix had the AUDACITY to..........
Sometimes you can ask them to "pre-certify" the claim and force them to get the correct billing. Sometimes they'll lie about that, too. Be sure to pay by credit card. Then when the billing is wrong, you can dispute the charge with the credit card company. Too many disputes with the credit card company will cause problems for the company doing the incorrect billing. This also helps when you call and they say, "we'll have to send this to our refunds department" that never does anything and never answers the phone.Tip10 wrote:Also beware -- If I understand correctly from someone close to me who uses them and has a percentage based co-pay -- Apria has the practice of demanding payment of the co-pay prior to billing insurance -- before they "know" what the allowed amount should be (and hence what the actual co-pay should be). Re: CareCentrix had the AUDACITY to..........
Carecentrix is a REAL life example of what is wrong with Health care in this country.
My health insurance is with CIGNA too.
I some medical equipment that my plan covers, but CIGNA referred me to CareCentrix,
who needed an RX and then An additional letter of medical necessity.
then for 1 month and 10 phone calls Carecentrix will NOT return the phone calls.
NO word on this since 12/29/2011. It was in the system as urgent.
All documents in the Hands of Carecentrix.
Since 12/29/11, i have called and called. NO return phone calls.
One more call today and they say, NO WE DO NOT HANDLE FOR CIGNA>
Call CIGNA DIRECTLY>
EXCUSE ME, CIGNA told me to call them in the first place.
I still do not have the medical equipment i badly need.
INCOMPETENT waste of everyone's time and money.
thanks I needed to tell someone!

I never pay on the phone because you can never be sure who you really are paying. Folks like that need something else to do.

I've had my runin with them too. In fact, within a "couple of day." They sent me to a collections office. You're right after almost ten months, why cry now and demand payment!!!

Re: CareCentrix had the AUDACITY to..........
I've gotten the runaround with both Apria and Carecentrix for roughly six months now. First Apria told me that a new supplies would be fully covered by my insurance, which they were not. Ordered a machine for me that I did not request and told me that it was fully covered as well, which it was not and billed me for an office visit I never had. Then I start getting nasty phone calls from Carecentrix about bills that hadn't been forwarded to my insurance company. I investigated and discovered I'd overpaid and requested a refund. Two months ago they told me they would refund and that it would take 4-6 weeks. I contacted them after not receiving the refund and was told they'd process it and I could expect a check in eight weeks. These people are just hoping I'll give up and let them keep my money. I'm not going back to Apria again.

Re: CareCentrix had the AUDACITY to..........
This all sounds horrible and I am very glad I do not deal with Apria or Carecentrix. I do, however, have occasional battles with a diagnostic lab that my doctor uses. They bill me and file insurance at the same time, I wait to pay until I see something from insurance that validates the amount, the amount never, ever matches, and we go back and forth for several iterations before they acknowledge that they've got it wrong.
When any of these fools dares to call me I politely inform them that I only handle financial transactions in writing, and if they send me a letter I will give it my immediate attention.
Now guess how often they actually do ever send me something in writing that documents their assertions...

carecentrix is awesome
Not really. I've been on hold for ten minutes to discuss why my insurance hasn't been filed yet. Again. A guy answers just now and asks me about his insurance. WTF? We got connected together! I suppose now that customers are to help each other on the phone? I'm still on hold for the second time approaching ten minutes again. I have time to write this post and learn piano, maybe a foreign language. Just got help. I have a new deductable I didn't know about. This woman has the sexiest voice. Forget everything I almost said. (Mother, father kindly disregard this letter )
